Five Reasons to Try Out Revelation Online

Revelation Online lands in closed beta a week from today on October 25th, 2016. With that in mind, today we’re taking a look at the features and footage around the web of the imported MMORPG, to try and figure out what parts of the game are most enticing. Read on for our Fives Reasons to Try Revelation Online.

5.) CASTLE SIEGES!

Revelation is touting a fantastic, but expected story-driven PVE campaign. We’ve all played a lot of story-based MMORPGs, and unless the localization team is on point, chances are the story will be par for the course. But what thrills us about the potential for a greater purpose in Revelation is the idea of Castle Sieges. Thousands of players are advertised to be able to take part in the fights between guilds, reminding us of a time when Lineage 2 was at its best.

4.) MULTIPLE CONTROL SYSTEMS

It’s a small thing, but having options on how to play an MMORPG in terms of controlling your character is awesome. In GW2, we almost always opt for Action Mode (despite traditional being more effective). WildStar? Same thing. In Revelation Online, players can choose between traditional tab target, click-to-move (a la L2), and Free Aiming which is more in like with modern games like ESO and Skyforge. If done well, Free Aiming sounds like the choice for me.

3.) MEANINGFUL GUILDS

A lot of games skim over the Guild Feature and make it all about simply having bodies for raids and a separate chat channel. Revelation Online goes further by allowing you to build and customize your own guild homes and improve them with features and special benefits. More of this, please!

2.) OPTIONAL OPEN WORLD PVP

I know not everyone wants what I want, but when it comes to PVP, I like to choose when and how I engage. Revelation has oodles of PVP choices, from arenas to castle sieges, and classic battlegrounds. But it also has optional PVP zones unlocked at higher levels where you can engage in full FFA PVP, with its own set of rewards and purposes.

1.) A HEALTHY MIX OF PVP AND PVE

Along the same lines as optional PVP, I’m always happy to have a game that gives me plenty of dungeons and ways to progress in PVE as well. With Aerial Sieges, flight-based dungeons for 5, 10, and 20 person raids, plus Battlegrounds, Guild Housing, crafting, and more… it really does sound like Revelation Online is one of the best imported MMORPGs to come along in ages. We’ll get a good look at the first closed beta next week, but for now – color us with the deep purple of anticipation. We’re assuming it’s purple, anyway.

Sometimes less than serious, in this space, we look back at the genre's history and far into the future to bring you a new list each week. Our countdowns are written by assorted members of the MMORPG.com Staff.
