Crowns, the premium currency in both Wizard101 and Pirate101, can be used to buy anything from new zones to hoard packs, mounts, and even pets. Although crowns can be purchased directly from KingsIsle, there are actually a few ways players can obtain them for free. Interested? Let's take a look...
1. Earn Crowns Button
Probably the most well known method of getting free crowns is the in-game Earn Crowns button. Once the option is turned on in settings, players are able to watch videos which each reward 10 crowns. As long as there are videos available to watch, you'll be able to earn crowns! Based on what I've seen, U.S. players tend to make out the best with this method. International players claim that there aren't nearly as many videos available for them to watch.
2. FreeKI Games Trivia
Another popular way to get free crowns is by completing FreeKI Games Trivia Quizzes. Each quiz is 12 questions long, and as long as you score a 75% or higher, you'll receive 10 free crowns (with a max of 10 quizzes per day). Don't worry though - the community has already done most of the work for you. Wizard101 Central members have been compiling the correct quiz answers for your convenience. No no no .... it's not cheating. It's being resourceful.

3. Special Promotions and Contests
Once in awhile, KingsIsle will throw their players a bone and offer them an opportunity to gain a nice chunk of crowns. Yuletide is usually a great time for that, but there's actually one going on right now. KingsIsle's newest mobile game, EverClicker, is running a limited time "Final Hit Event." If a player defeats a time gate by delivering the final hit (on select weekends only), that person will receive 1,000 crowns. With a max of 2,000 crowns per weekend, and 4 weekends to play, you're looking at the possibility of obtaining 8,000 free crowns. Not too shabby.
KingsIsle isn't the only one giving away goodies though. Wizard101 and Pirate101 official fansites have also been known to get in on the free crowns action around certain events and/or holidays. Currently, Wizard101 Central is celebrating their 9th birthday by holding tons of different contests. And yes, crowns are a possible prize ... as are bundles and lots of other cool stuff.
Meretz No Longer
Meretz, a gaming fitness app, is another way KingsIsle gamers can earn free crowns, but not for much longer. When asked if Meretz would be restocked with more crowns codes, KingsIsle's community manager replied, "Sorry. We will no longer be offering this promotion once the current Crowns code supplies at Meretz have all been claimed." Sorry Meretz users! Be sure to take advantage of what's left of those free crowns while you still can.

Beware of Scams
Even though Wizard101 and Pirate101 have a friendlier community than most other games, it isn't perfect. There will always be bad apples who want to take advantage of other players (especially younger players). Beware of "Crown Generators" and/or fake giveaways promising you free goodies. Never give away your account information to these types of sources. Be smart and sensible when dealing with free stuff. Actually, be smart and sensible in general. That's always a good idea. I wish I didn't have to post these kinds of warnings, but I still occasionally hear about people losing their account. Don't be one of these people!
