The Destiny Board was designed to give players some direction in a world in which there are no levels; though players are not relying on a traditional experience points accumulation and level-up system, they are still able to plan their own Destiny in the world of Albion, and become their own unique hero.
We also wanted to ensure that the players themselves could decide how to focus the development of their character. There are essentially three paths to choose from – Crafting, PvE and PvP. Depending on which of these paths players choose, there will be various unlockable bonuses to acquire, which will help players design and support their own play style.
The Albion Online Destiny Board is divided into three major areas:
- The first consists of a number of missions and quests which will reward you with various vanity items as well as some small bonus stats. These missions are divided into 3 branches: PvP, PvE and Carebear.
- In the center of the Destiny Board can be found all of the items in the game. Here you can unlock both the skills to equip and wear these items as well as the ability to craft them.
- In the lower part you’ll find everything relating to the buildings in Albion Online. Here you can unlock new and more powerful buildings to craft.
You can see the different sections clearly in the screenshot below:
The Destiny Board will be a key means of making your character more powerful in Albion Online. You’ll essentially be given a list of missions or tasks to complete based on the general direction you’re heading in in your playthrough.
When you complete these objectives, you’ll be given a reward in the form of an item or building recipe, or a permanent bonus to your hit points, carry weight, armor rating, or damage when using a certain weapon.
Missions on the Destiny Board will range from gathering a certain number of materials, taking or dealing damage, getting a certain number of kills, a certain level of fame, etc. You’ll be updated on the progress of your current objective via a prompt at the bottom of the screen.
This will ensure that you rise swiftly up the ranks in a way which complements your individual play style – if you’re a mage who also likes to use ranged attacks, you can choose to complete missions which give you more buffs to your magic and archery skills. If you want to be a tank/healer hybrid you can work towards your plate armor and healing spells. The Destiny Board is a way of providing direction to players while avoiding classification and restriction. The Destiny Board gives you a clear overview of where you’re going and what you need to do next.
Another feature of the Destiny Board is the method by which players unlock items. Just as in real life, in AO you’ll have to learn how to handle a weapon or tool before you pick it up for the first time. For this reason, we’ve made it so that a player will have to have unlocked a recipe before they can craft a particular item. For instance, if you’re looking to craft a T4 sword, you’ll first have to work hard to learn the recipe. Thus we’ve decided to reward the patience and tenacity of players who constantly work to improve and develop their character.
In addition to the full Destiny Board, which you can reach straight from the HUD, you’ll also be given a prompt for at least one of your current objectives at the bottom edge of your screen, so you’ll always know what to do next as soon as you jump into the game. With these reminders, you’ll be able to pick up from where you left off last time!
