2) World of Warcraft
World of Warcraft is the only game on this list that does not include a formal dating or marriage mechanic built into the game itself. With that being said though, it doesn’t stop it from being one of the best games to play with as a couple on Valentine’s Day. A few months ago, I posted my impressions of playing WoW for the first time almost 10 years later as a brand new player, which included praise for the convenience afforded by the great Recruit-a-Friend feature.
While my experiences were not with a significant other, the benefits to playing WoW with someone via the Recruit-a-Friend mechanic were immediately evident. Not only did it make it easier for me to get into the game, but it afforded large bonuses to the both of us, as well was major benefits for the veteran player. Of course, if you and your significant other are already WoW vets, this isn’t really an appealing feature, but the WoW community is so creative that it’s easy to find ways to celebrate the holiday with both Blizzard-created and community-created events.
1) Final Fantasy XIV
Remember how I said Age of Wushu had the most elaborate system on this list? Well, that might have been a bit of an exaggeration because Final Fantasy XIV has an equally robust, if not more detailed, marriage system. Not only is it afforded virtually all of the same features as the Age of Wushu wedding event, but the Ceremony of Eternal Bonding has even more options.
For example, not only do you get to pick a venue with varying levels of extravagance, but you can even decide on the type of ceremony. Want something light-hearted that’s sealed with a kiss? Or how about utilizing something more lore-centric that’s topped off with a toast? FFXIV even has full cutscenes and fleshed out activities to really make it feel like a truly momentous occasion. And with FFXIV establishing itself as one of the highest quality modern pay-to-play MMOs on the market, it was an easy selection for the best game to play as a couple on Valentine’s Day.
