A Look at Final Fantasy XIV

Welcome to my biweekly Final Fantasy XIV column! I think it’s been a while since we’ve had one of these for FFXIV. With a massive influx of new and returning players alike gearing up for the next expansion, Shadowbringers, it’s never been a better time.  There’s an enormous amount of content coming soon for us to delve through, I hope you’ll join us on the adventure as we dive head first into all of it!

The current state of the game is rather pleasant to be honest. With most MMORPG’s, the lag time between the end of an expansion and the new expansion being released is usually a bad time to be playing.  I say that because typically there’s no content added, you’ve done everything, and all you’re doing is preparing for the next expansion by selling everything you can to make a quick buck before it’s useless.  With FFXIV, however, that isn’t the case.  Unlike other big-name MMORPGs (you know which ones I’m talking about) we have a constant supply of content right up to the day of release.  With extensive content updates every four months, spread out across sub-patches each month, giving us a constant supply of new Main Story Quests (MSQ) and awesome side-quests such as Hildibrand.  Not to mention any new Raids, Dungeons, or PVP mechanics they add.

Luckily for us, part 2 of A Requiem for Heroes should be coming out very soon, sometime around March 26th.  While I’m excited about the new MSQ, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t more excited about the new Hildibrand quests. Have you done your Hildibrand quests yet?  If not, why?  These quests are some of the best, if not the best FFXIV has to offer!

Are you excited for the Final Fantasy Festival in Tokyo?  I know I am, mainly hoping they announce the Dancer. A while back there was a leak that pointed towards the initials DNC, one can expect this does mean Dancer, and if so it’ll be the new healer job! Other than a job confirmation, I want some answers to the extended trailer.  Time will tell, The Tokyo Fan Fest begins this Friday, March 22nd at 6 PM PDT.

 – SPOILER ALERT –

Why did Urianger call Y’shtola Master Matoya?!? Minfilia had glowing eyes and had a child’s body.  What is going on, we need answers!

Shadowbringers is slated for a July 2nd release date.  That gives us a solid three months to get ready.  In the next installment of The Eorzea Prospect, we will explore the various ways to help gear yourself up to be prepared for anything the expansion throws at you.  Hope you’ll join us again in 2 weeks!

As this was the first edition of this column, and as I happen to have a spare key here, I will be giving away a starter edition copy of Final Fantasy XIV.  The starter edition is just the base game, but it comes with 30 days of game time.  This is a perfect chance to try the game out without the limitations of the trial to honestly get your feet wet with FFXIV.

To enter, simply leave a comment below as to why you want the key.  It’s that simple.  I will read the comments, place the names in a randomizer and choose a winner to be announced in the next installment in 2 weeks. The winner will receive the code via PM.
