In this bi-weekly column we tally up the news from around the almost-MMO-verse and offer our thoughts on the ins and outs of the titles that are big, but maybe not quite "Massive".
In May of this year Undead Labs came out with State of Decay 2, a sequel to their smash hit State of Decay (check out our review). It was met with some success with a bit of a buggy launch. Four months later and they have delivered the newest DLC for the game Daybreak which introduces a separate wave-based horde fighting mode. Is it worth the price of admission? Time to find out. This is our State of Decay 2: Daybreak review.
Chernobyl, the site of one of the worst nuclear catastrophes in all of human history. The reactor melted down and caused an area of about a thirty km radius to become highly irradiated, and is still that way today. No living human can live there anymore, but what does still live there? Check out our thoughts on Fear the Wolves.
Just barely a week after launch, SCUM has succeeded in bringing players the DayZ we've always wanted, to an extent. SCUM is a survival multiplayer/single player first person shooter. You have to eat and drink, you also have to urinate and do number 2 every now and then. Staying alive isn't always easy, but hey, what fun would it be if it were easy?
After a couple of months away from the game it's been nice to spend some time back in the world of Vermintide 2 specifically hacking and slashing my way through its latest DLC Shadows Over Bogenhafen. So grab that coffee, kick back and enjoy our review of Warhammer: Vermintide 2 - Shadows Over Bogenhafen, and yes I too notice how long that title is!
Perfect World came into town and had Remnant: From the Ashes among their titles. This game surprised us with its fast-paced action and dark mood. Once inside the demo we stayed for the intense gameplay and determination to succeed, that is right fans of Dark Souls, you have something new to look forward to. Remnant is tough, but in a fantastic way.
Are you tired of subpar graveyards? Do you feel like you just never get the pristine bodies the other guys do? Well, does Red Thomas have an article for you. Scalpels ladies and gentlemen, because Red’s about to show you how to embalm like a pro in Graveyard Keeper.
You take a hit and fly across the ground, sliding to a stop as you try to regain your composure. Pulling an arrow from the quiver, you take aim, the arrow is loosed and you hit the charging beast square in the eye socket. The giant beast goes down with a thud, and it’s still warm corpse is laying there waiting for you to harvest it. This is our review of Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate on Nintendo Switch.
Written like an old fashioned pulp-fiction matinee, feeling every bit an Indiana Jones movie with visual immersion as detailed as an AAA MMORPG - Rebellion development team’s newest title Strange Brigade launches this week with rip-roaring stories, animation, puzzles and gunfire all in the picturesque albeit zombie-ridden setting of 1930’s Egypt. How did this all come to be, what is a strange brigade and why are they here?
As early as 1800Z 06AUG18, Red Thomas asked at least four former intel colleagues to join him in playing Phantom Doctrine by CreativeForge Games. The individuals gathered at REDCAVE and game session is expected to have lasted a minimum of 6 hours.
An MMORPG that is fairly similar in form to other games of its type where you are a survivor, fighting against animals, monsters, and other players, does it have what it takes to stand up against a game like Destiny or other MMO type games? This is our first impressions of Will to Live Online.
Just when you think you couldn’t possibly be drawn to another survival after the many that have graced our gaming grid, just one trailer was all it took and I needed to get into Outpost Zero made by the folks over at Symmetric Games who have teamed up with tiny Build as they launch on Steam Early Access. The planet Gaiya is absolutely stunning, it drew me in like a moth to a flame but what did I have to do to dominate it?
Earthfall has been in early access for a while now and has finally had a full release on Steam recently. It has aliens, guns aplenty and various things that go boom. But can Holospark make it more than what it appears to be at first glance? Left 4 Dead with Aliens? Let’s find out. Here is our Earthfall review.
Warface, the free-to-play FPS, is jumping from its home on PC and invading consoles later this year. Recently, ahead of its launch, a few select conscripts dropped into a secret Parisian bunker to try out tan early build of this console shooter. Publisher My.com is expecting big things from this title and after we locked and loaded, I sat down with Project Manager Alexander Shimov to talk about this leap over to console.
Let's be honest, the majority of people have at least seen the first Jurassic Park and thought, I could do better. Dinosaurs for a lot of us were quite a big thing when we were younger and Jurassic Park helped to take us one step closer to our dinosaur filled dreams. Jurassic World Evolution seeks to give you that chance to live out your dreams of being the person behind the scenes making all the important decisions that will make your park a great success or chaos personified.
Gunheart is a 3-player co-op game that is coming out today across several VR platforms, as well as for desktop PCs via Steam. Gunheart is developed by Drifter Entertainment, a team that sports an impressive pedigree of experience ranging from Gears of War to Doom and Quake and that experience shows. It's a sometimes rough shooter that has potential for those looking for a small-group cooperative experience.
