Soulbound Studios, developers of Chronicles of Elyria, have suspended Settlers of Elyria while providing the community with a plan moving forward.
The forum post delves into the reasoning behind why this suspension is taking place, citing the Domain portals going offline. This is expounded upon in their official discord by Caspian who wrote,
“Hey Elyrians. Yesterday (12/21) at 3:31pm PST shortly after the re-launch of Domain Portal with the Settlers of Elyria event, the site began to perform increasingly worse. It appears that there are thousands of incoming requests being made for sale info, domain info, etc. It's unclear yet whether these are part of an intentional denial-of-service, botting, or a bug in the Settlers of Elyria client code that is causing the issue, but the constant traffic is causing the site to run at a constant 100% utilization.”
As a result, SBS took the Domain portals down with the actual site remaining unusable at that time. Caspian followed up later in Discord after having discovered the root cause,
“After investigation, I've discovered the root cause of the performance problems we began suffering from earlier yesterday, after the latest release of the DSS portal. I will be leaving the DSS portal disabled for the time being while we roll out a new fix and we ask anyone that has the DSS portal open in any browser to close it. Thanks for your cooperation! Please note, website performance, aside from the DSS portal, has returned to normal. Thanks again!”
The forum picks up here and notes that given the proximity to the holidays, fixes won’t actually roll out until after the team has had their break,
“Yet, with just hours before the holidays there is insufficient time for us to do the necessary work in a way that respects the team's need for time off, and you, our community's, time during the holidays. This means we won’t be putting this plan into action until after the break. This means you'll be getting an update on our current status and progress after the new year.”
The forum post continues that after the root cause has been addressed, SBS will announce a date for the relaunch of the Settlers of Elyria event,
“When the event resumes, NPC claims will be reset, there will be new Flash Sales, and progressive discount prices will begin counting down at -3%.”
Understandably, some community members didn’t take the news lightly, with member Immaculated Eception writing,
“-3% is three days worth of decrease. We are well beyond that now. Does that mean we will not get the full -45% decrease or does that mean the end date of this promotion will be extended further into February?”
At this time, we’re still in a holding pattern waiting for further updates from SBS, as their official Discord server hasn’t posted in the “official-updates” channel since Monday.
