Original voice of Claptrap won't be in BL3, and here's why

UDPATE: Gearbox has issued a statement on Dave Eddings' allegations of assault, but has stil declined to comment on the ongoing lawsuit involving the $12M. The statement reads: "Gearbox takes any and all claims of this nature very seriously and we will abstain from commenting on the allegations Dave is making because it is a personnel matter. We appreciate David’s contributions to the Borderlands franchise and have continued to assert we would welcome him back into the mix as the voice of Claptrap and other future opportunities."

ORIGINAL ARTICLE:

Dave Eddings is not just the voice behind Claptrap, the lovable but annoying robot mascot of the Borderlands franchise, he's also a former VP of Business Development at Gearbox, and now the driving force behind Rooster Teeth Games' publishing. But he won't be back to voice Claptrap in Borderlands 3, and we might now know why...

After a recent Social Media argument between Game Informer's Andy McNamara and Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford over a tweet for an article where GI used the word "despite"  (no, I'm not kidding), it seems that Gearbox and 2K has another social media mess to clean up in the wake of revelations why Claptrap's original voice actor won't be returning to game #3.

In short, Eddings alleges that he offered to do the part on BL3 for free, even though he's no longer with Gearbox, if Randy apologized for physically assaulting him in the lobby of a hotel at GDC 2017.

The tweet thread even brings up the lawsuit filed early this year against Pitchford that claims (among other things) that the Gearbox CEO has siphoned off $12Mln in funds that were supposed to be awarded to Gearbox employees.

We'll keep you posted as we learn more.
