as i mentioned in the last post with the tour of new koraelia, there are 5 major questgivers for gnomekindle.  i am only going to cover a couple of them, because to try to cover them all would be a task taking us to next gnomekindle!

first, we meet loremaster burl, just near the port pad; then hermey the misfit, near the frozen pond; followed by mayor clause, who gives the 'exploration' quests, and mrs. clause, giver of the present and ornament quests.  lastly, we will meet yukon cornelius.

we will be concerned with the loremaster, hermey, and yukon cornelius - because they provide useful/collectible items needed to get gnomekindle goodies - namely, istarian express cheques. don't leave home without them!!

anyway, since we will be meeting him first, let's start with loremaster burl!  after greeting him for the first time, choose the 'how gnomekindle came to be' quest.  it is just a very long speech to read, nothing to fetch - yet.

burl's second quest is a different matter.  the loremaster wants to make ornaments from wood, and needs chunks of it to do so. so he will send you off to hunt down treants and get chunks from them.  now, i did this quest barehanded and without weapons of any type.  don't make my mistake, equip your weapons, even if you are hunting easy stuff like i did.  otherwise it will take you forever, depending on respawn rate of the particular treants you are hunting, to get 50 chunks of wood.  i chose to hunt oak treants in heather, mostly because i knew i could take them and where they are.  the treants will also drop ornaments, which can be used as currency with the cashiers.  keep in mind that saplings do not count, you must hunt full treants to get the required wood chunks.

anyhoo, once you have your 50 chunks, head back to the loremaster.  greet him and get your reward.

this quest is repeatable, so you can hunt all levels of treants to get all the ornaments and more cheques.  many citizens do collect each years' festival ornaments and presents, as these are changed every year and it is a point of pride with us oldtimers to say we have stuff from years past........

come back soon when we will meet hermey the misfit, who will give us a quest for something plot holders might (and do) enjoy!

time for a little break from trainers, in order to celebrate the season!  in istaria, the winter festival is called 'gnomekindle'.

after the restructuring of the old training islands, new koraelia became the festival island.  it has two seasons, summer - for the pax istaria festival; and winter - for the gnomekindle event.

the easiest way to get to the resort islands - for me, anyway - is to port from bristugo to genevia island.  take the brist port closest to the road up from the shrine, port to genevia (you will land on the port pad almost directly in front of the portal you need to get to the resort islands), take the portal to new koraelia, winter season.  you will land at the port pad down the road from the town gate.

first, i will take you on a brief tour of the town and most of the inhabitants.  next time, we will start the gnomekindle quests - for now, let's get familiar with where the people are!

the first citizen you will meet is loremaster burl, just off the road into town near the port pad.  he will tell you about the tradition of gnomekindle and give you a quest.  more about both of those next time.

once you pass thru the ice gate, you will see the frozen pond on your right.  arrayed around it are dolly day (first person closest to the gate), the various cashiers (around the far edge from the road), and hermey the misfit gnome (furthest from the gate, closest to the town).  hermey has a quest for you, which we will explore later.

continuing up the road will bring you to the mayor's house.  out front, you will find mayor clause, who has a great many quests for you - quests that will have you exploring (and most prolly attuning to) the major cities of istaria - always a good thing!  near the front door of the house, you will find mrs. clause - the good mayor's good wife also has a couple tasks she would like you to do!

staying on the road past the mayor's house, you will soon discover yukon cornelius, the greatest prospector ever!  he has quests for you, of course, relating to the celebration.

the last person on the road thru town is ignatius.  iggy is not very people oriented - he is very much the grumpy cat of istaria, as you will discover if you try talking to him!

be very careful, especially if you are low level, about wondering past iggy - the city limit is strictly maintained by the large pack of winter wolves that patrol constantly.....

well, now that you know where everyone is, next we will start meeting them!!  this will be almost as new for me as for you - gnomekindle changes a little every year.  so, see you again soon to discover what might be had for fun and loot during the holiday season!  come back, i don't care if you are naughty or nice!

another little break from the routine

the second healer in chiconis is frall the healer.  this trainer can be found in the upper alcove of the second cave, marked by the blue crystal formation.  turn to the left after crossing the bridge from the main cave and you will find frall waiting.

as usual, greet frall, listen to the speech, and check your quest journal for details.  my quest is to hunt down some giant ice beets, creatures that like to fight and love to aggro.  doing them solo is possible, but the area is home to some big time nasties, and having someone to watch your back isn't a bad idea.  also, if you haven't attuned to the islands' portal, you have a long and possibly life theatening journey to get there.....

glacier canyon is located on the island of ice, and the only portal to it and the island of fire (located directly under the ice isle in the screenie) is on the bridge between the two islands.  i have covered how to get to the portal gatekeeper in a past post, so i won't here, but mourningwood was able to do several quests and the attunement at the same time.  which is wonderful, because you have to run thru some really dangerous territory to even get to the entrance of the bridge.........

anyhoo, back to bizniz....  once you get to the isle of ice, start hunting ice beets until you get your 20.  check your game chat and quest journal to make sure you are finished here (i believe i mentioned it's a long and arduous trip, haven't i?) and return to the dragon trainer for your reward.

instant heal, as you might imagine, is a very useful ability - and one to keep updated!

come back soon, when we will leave the floating island and visit some trainers for my mostest fave dragon trix!!  you really don't want to miss these!  ;-}
