Hatred The emotion of intense dislike; a feeling of dislike so strong that it demands action.

Gamers are a sad sad crowd

This is entirely my fault, but I never pay attention to that little bar up there with my name and how many messages I have in this site. Today, I decided to look for some reason and noticed I had 20 messages somehow. When I checked my inbox, it was empty. So, it was nothing other than spam and after ~20 years on the internet you pick up a few things, normally I get the following spam in my yahoo & gmail accounts:

  • Fake facebook spam - Which is ironic, because I don't have a facebook account.
  • Real facebook spam - Which is ironic for the exact same reasons
  • WoW Spam - No mister, my account doesn't need a password change or more gold. I don't even play wow.
  • Gold watches - I don't even wear watches.
  • Bigger penis - If I wanted to please a whale, I'd do your mother
  • Viagra - I might need this after I grow a 2 foot penis with your other pills
  • Nigerian princes - How many of you are there?
With that in mind I looked at my spambox and this was what I found:
So the [mmo] gamer spam basically thinks we're:
  • Fat
  • Depressed
  • Lonely
  • Allergic
And the regular spam thinks we're:
  • Social
  • Impotent
  • Small dicked and insecure
  • Dumb
  • In need of fake gold watches to impress our peers
Which one do you prefer?

I'm gonna vote all of the above! Preconceptions are great, saves me time thinking.

"They think we are" ? lol...

That is not really about what they think we are. I guess this is just what money does: weight problems, small penis and so on are just damn good money makers from the dumb internet crowd.

Take advantage of people's fear and weaknesses and turn it into cash... Internet is not the only place where this kind of "tricks" are being used.

Strange, I havn't been recieving any of those things in my mmorpg inbox. Might want to check what your are subscribed to, and if you are on the mailing list or not.

(I am not, might be why they havn't been sent to me? That would bring up a whole other issue though..)

Doesn't really surprize me though, we have been seeing an aweful lot of spam bots in just the forums lately, the shoe selling kind of all things.

They are all after the same thing though, and it doesn't matter what they are trying (sometimes pretending) to sell.

I haven't recieved anything, yet I understand how annoying it can be.

Yet this is not  a problem that happens to gamers exclusively. My father recieves spam of that kind on all his mail accounts. And he has never touched other games than good old computer chess.

There's no need to make the gamer look even more sad than we already do ;)

Since 04 I have never had any spam here.

I am not sure how they found you here, can you send mails to this box ? But generally spam is not targeted at anyone and don't know if you are a man or woman, a bot search the net and find your email address and another fires 100 billion spam messages. 100 billion messages cost nothing but cpu cycles, and as long as 1 sucker bite then it was worth it.
