MMORPG's are great aren't they. I think so too. Well whatever this is weirder than writing a review so I will just say I got writers block and stop here and maybe continue onwards in the near future.

Just a heads up, this preview was writen in may, but it all still holds true to this day. So sit back and enjoy your feature presentation.


Hey everybody, I thought i'd share my view after playing just about 3 days straight as if I play any longer my skin will begin to rot...

First off as you all know, the game is gorgeous. This game litteraly IS eye candy everwhere you go, every second you are there. The gameplay itself starts you out in your respective start zones. As i've played to level 17 for asmodians, and reached 25 with elyos and have two other level 7 toons. I will tell you a little about both.

Elyos - To me the elyos seem to have a much more fresh and inviting atmosphere than the asmodians, and imo, it has alot more of a "catch" to it. The wheather changes every once in a while and sometimes storms brew and rain falls. What's interesting is that your character even makes the effort to pull out a leaf to keep dry.

Quests - The quests are very enjoyable, although at the beginning like any other, it's pretty much kill this, steal that... But honestly, real life isnt't much different is it? Well maybe just a little. Anywho, you finally reach the first small town and that's where you get your epic missions which are seperate from your "normal quests". This is because missions in aion are a primary storyline progression and they are typically WAY more fun than you're standard quest. "Imo". But don't get me wrong here, they are all fun. Especally if you are playing with a couple of friends while ordering pizza. "Note to self, get alot more than two friends".


Abilities - The abilities in aion really vary from class to class. While playing the warrior I noticed you can run and jump, and still get off combos/specials without a sweat. It's basically unrestricted combat which is really weird. Because when you get to classes like the assassin, the first thing you want to do is run and stab someone in the back, but then you realize you can't just run around shanking people.

The skills have this funny way about forcing you to lock on without being able to move around till after the skill/combo has gone off. This can become a real pain because casters, who auto-aim, even when the assasin gets behind an apponent, he ends up getting blasted even if he thought he was being clever. My friend almost pulled his hair out playing the assassin, though I immagine they are pretty powerfull in the higher levels.


Asmodians Vs Eleyos - Seriously now, I am beginning to beleive the poor asmodians got the short end of the stick. Don't get me wrong, asmodians are still very enjoyable to play. But the storyline locations vary so much in the starter zones that it's simply amazing. One of the missions on both sides will end up looking like this. :"I'm an asmodian, This dungeon looks pretty neat!, har har har" While doing the same quest on the eleyos side makes you just about pass out with clicincal epiciness overload. If that exists?

- Just take in stride that these are VERY early levels. The first cave you go into to be exact  O.o

Some of the subtle differences I have enjoyed noticing between the two sides is that when running around as an asmodian, every class feels like a ninja, "yeah it's cool". Nothing beats running while hunched and then jumping over a crate to do a frontflip over a ledge onto a unsuspecting enemy. While pulling your weapon you will think to youself, this guy's gonna get iced. One of the really cool effects that they have is when you unsheath a weapon while running there is a spark of electricity that rivits through the blade which makes taking out your foes all the more pleasurable. Now of course, everyone know's that asmodians eye's glow red, and trust me, ingame it looks really sweet.


Character creation - Fan-freaking tastical. This thing is awsome. I have nothing more to comment on this amazing beast of technology, just try it youself. Well just kidding, but it is very good, and even has the option to change you eye color. This is a very robust system that any character-customization freak would love to have. You'd be hard pressed to find one better. Sure there may be a "Select few" [No pun intended], but honestly, how many? 4 out of the 10 billion MMO's?!?! Oh, probably less (=


My thoughts- Alright, so I might sound like a complete fanboi about now... And that may even be true eventually. But let me say this, my friends who I got to play this. "Had a damn hard time getting them to". Are worse than critics when it becomes MMO's. They are very stingy when it comes to mmo's because we started them around EQ1 and back then there wasn't a million different mmo's circulating in the market. Now aday's you have SO many, so how can you tell if a game is right for you?

Well I have never seen my friends so amazed as when they walked into the eleysium. My friend brian specifically stated, "Holy sh*t, this is the most f****** awsome main city I have ever seen. Then continued to say stuff like, "This is stuff that is usually quality depicted in fantasy novels and stuff, not mmo's.

While my other friend david doesn't comment much on what he thinks. "He's been playing WoW since 05". So whenever I say how cool something is while doing something in whatever place for whatever reason, he always finds a way to compare it so something similar in wow <_<". That's all fine because I've played WoW a couple years myself. Yet WoW never seemed like "My MMO", As It was pushed on me from hype and friends playing. Now that one of my good friend's, that origionaly got me into WoW in the first place, has died. I have been in limbo the past couple of years here on As a matter of fact the only MMO I truly considered my home last, was SWG-Pre CU. And right before that Planetside.

Suffice to say, I have seen some of the other MMO's coming in the near-distant future. "Terra online", "Black prophecy", "Jumgate", Ect. I think I have finally drawn the line on when I must stop waiting for the "next thing". I will be d*mned if I wait till 2012-2013 to play Terra online. Folks, I think i'm gonna play aion. Now of course this is "My own opinion". But I honestly tried to articulate what I experienced as unbiased as possible. So you guys can take what i've said for what it's worth. I am glad I was finally able to say what i've wanted to get off my chest for a while now.

"I've found a new home".... Oh yeah, please forgive my grammar, I still don't know how to spell alot of this aion stuff.

My indecent thoughts

MMORPG's are like a bad date that is hott. It is always a little akward, but you still want her more and more the next day because that is what your thinker tells you to do. Well although I have not been officialy into any MMORPG since I quit WoW for the 100th time back in mid 2007. I still find myself going to this site quite frequently hoping that a golden egg would be hatched from a developer.

Then you start to think to youself, wait a second. That's no golden egg, that's a pastrami sandwhich. Why the hell are they making me a pastrami sandwhich... "Well, this pastrami sandwhich is FREE so you don't half to pay a cent unless you actually want to beat the other players". NEATO!

What is it exactly that creates a cynic in the times of this genre? Is is the ever invading trolls? The bad tripple A titles? Or is it that one second everyone can be crying for a certain feature to be put in, and when another MMO comes along boasting this feature, they will jump over to it and call it retarded. Anyways.

Thoughts about other types of thoughts while riding the aion wagon.

MMORPG's should be each to their own, and for the most part that is so. But when you get youself involved in a community like this you tend to get an atmosphere of hostility towards (1) defining opinion. How do you beat this? You try the game youself to see how you like it. That is what I did in my personal experience a few months back. The hype meter for Aion looked alot like everybody and their mum seemed to telling me exactly how much of a typical asian grind fest this REALLY was. Holy crap, thanks for the very sophisticated analysis einstein, now excuse my while I actually dig for at least 1 peice of information.

A word to the wise, those guys had autism badly. Not only is this game only "average" on the grind level "What MMO isn't? But it is fun as well. Now alot of people say that it looks like an anime and while it does have alot of it's asian roots. This proclomation couldn't be further from reality.  For that matter, I would like to intoduce you to this cosplay.


Mmmm tasty.

Gentlemen, this is a cosplay of Aion. Notice the hott korean ladies? Also notice the Aion poster behind them? Don't the faces look kind of similar in structure? Yes my friends, they are asian, and guess what! Anime is based off of ASIANS. So if this theory folds out correctly, Aion is based off of real korean people who have a very oriental art style with there mythology and can be seen as very similar to how anime is represted because anime is derived from asian culture!!!

Now get your arse into your chair and pre-order the game! "Just kidding". But before you turn a blind eye, I would like to personally say that this game is worth checking out at the least. I give it my recomondation. Although I may only be one peice of the puzzle to your source of info, and whether I am deemed "trusted" enough to take my word is not the issue. It's whether you can use what I am saying a part of the building blocks to making an informed decision.

I will flat out tell you, don't take what I have to say for stone. But use it along with EVERYTHING else you learn about this game to make an informed decision when deciding your next mmorpg experience. After all, an MMORPG is an investment. The last thing most people want is to make an ill informed decision and regret it later on. Aion is not EVERYBODIES cup of tea. But there are plenty who like this blend, and it would be a shame if people who this might be right for end up missing out due to not hearing about it.

Well I thought I'd get off to some comparisons of a game called WoW, and a game called Aion, and maybe throw in some screenshots too!  Note these are just my temp characters


All screenshots in this blog are taken around the CN beta. I was able to progress to level 25 on both asmodian and elyos and what blast. Though I am very inexperienced with the abyss, I look forward to  seeing it in the NA release. You might be wondering right about now, "What's so good about aion". Well, coming from a mechanical standpoint, "THE PVP" obviously!


For me, I grew up in the age of NES, SNES, and the N64. The VERY FIRST competitive console game I ever really got into was the mario party 1, smash bros 1, and mario kart, ect. Back in the day, guess what. We had no RVR, no online matchmaking for immersive 3D worlds. This is all still a treat for me as someone who has slowly viewed the gaming genre evolve.

To this day I do not take PVP for granted. That is why I truly believe aion has some very well implemented features when it comes to PVP. They have the system of PVPVE which places you against your rivals in abyss combat, with the 3rd NPC faction as a balance to help the losing side. This is a dynamic which will create ALOT more possibilities in which you approach the game whether it be PK'ing, Raiding, questing, anything. Now not everyone likes being kicked in the rear, admitted. But the risk of it being ever present will cater to alot of people.

[Notice, Alot of what I write past this point I give credit to Veex, I only intend to reinforce what he has said through my blog because I highly agree with him and believe he litteraly took the the words right out of my mouth] 

PVP incentives and risks anyone?

Anyways I get on to supposed "problems" where EXP loss is a "bad thing". Well in aion, guess what, you'll also lose abyss ranking, which can also be a BIG drain. This gives people a reason to want to survive. In games like WoW, "Not a bad game". When you PVP it is usually in a  arena where you run at the enemy fearlessly to slaughter as many as possible then rez and run right back and do it again. The game won't be played quite like that in aion. People will stuggle their hardest to stay alive, and from what I've seen it is quite possible to survive a very long time in aion.

This kind of risk creates an entirely new way people approach PVP and adds a meaningful experience to it, and also makes you more serious about taking down every last one of your foes. Another cool experience is when you might be in a raid of 20 people or so trying to fight your way to a boss and then all of a sudden woah, did the enemy just come from that little side passage and just start attacking us while we where on our way to the boss?

 Dynamics? Yes please!  Well... if that's not your thing that's ok too!

Additions like risk add meaning to the battle. The boss itself doesn't half to be ALL powerful. But if you are having a struggle for ground just to find the perfect ammount of leverage to hold off your enemies while taking the boss, then that is a blast. In WoW they went the way of instancing, so while it is fun, alot of the time you have youself asking, "What would it be like if this dungeon was "OPEN" instead of instanced? Now I know alot of people don't like the idea of sitting for a open world creature to spawn JUST to have it stolen by another party. But in all honestly, that really adds a closeness to the community you play with.

Battle ground VS open world, Risks VS No risk.  How WoW does it, and how Aion does it different

One thing that I truly hope aion doesn't go towards is the battle arenas WoW does so well. Wow sets you against foes you've never seen on your server. This is sort of disapointing for alot of people because the truth of the matter is killing a random bob makes the battle even less important to you. Back several hundred WoW patches ago, it was a little different. You knew who you where killing because everyone was from the same server. But the fact that the battles where setup in a Egames type scenario with no risk, and always a reward. People still played like they had 3 pixi sticks up their arse. Aion has it setup where there are no battleground and situations like that. I pray that it does not happen down the foreseeable future because all of these features are in fact what tears up a community of players on a single server.


Even short blogs can seem long sometimes huh? Insert breather and recoop your stamina  here kid!!


Don't get me wrong, I don't dissaprove of how WoW handles the arena's. I enjoyed them alot, but I also cannot deny the radical differences being how it effects the community compared to how Aion will. It's almost sad to see people calling Aion a WoW clone. After all, the differences in PVP between these two is like Night and Day. Both have their perks, but they are entirely different breeds.

Not having battlegrounds and cross server action with the incentives to directly fight your enemy and play with others from your own server with meaningful combat and risks is what makes your heroes, it makes your well know PK'ers. It makes your most hated guild. It makes everything that is a good MMORPG. And we ALL know WoW doesn't have the greatest communities.  [Barrens chat anyone]

So next time you see somebody calling Aion a WoW clone, punch him in the face and tell him that Aion only borrowed aspects!! ASPECTS!!!! But then again when I am "COOKING" I also borrow entire recepies wheres WoW only stole one or two ingredients. So at the end of the day cooking is even worse on the morale scale ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
