Ok, this is my second blod blurting out my ideas. I probably shouldn't be doing this, someone's going to snatch up my ideas and make a fortune. If you haven't read my first one, just to get an overview of what I'm going for, you probably should. I couldn't figure out how to link it, so it's just called "My idea of a great MMORPG." I'm sure you can find it.

Basically if I sat here and typed everything I had floating around and head we'd have something so long nobody would read it, and my goal here is to get opinions and provide an interesting read, so I probably should just keep making blogs as I feel like it.

I didn't really talk about player housing, PvP, or graphics in my previous post, and I want to just mention those briefly here, there isn't a whole lot that can be said about the 3 on such an unevolved idea.

Player housing would preferrably almost mimic the player housing in SWG. The housing in SWG was just plain awesome, at the moment I can't think of anything to make it better, except for more houses and styles to choose from. If you never played SWG, the housing worked in a way to where nothing was instanced about it. You built a city for your guild, each player could have a house of any size, depending on how much money he had to spend to get a house deed from an "Architecht" (another great proffesion to have). The city could be organized in any way the city leader's wanted, the guild hall was also a seperate un-instanced building, as well as many other options. I also really enjoyed the vendor system, crafters and other players could set up vendors (gained through the Artisan and Trader professions I think?) to sell their wares. People would then have to look up the item on the bazaar, then fly to the correct planet, and ride down to the store, with a given waypoint. I sure wish I could come up with better ways for all this to work, but I'm sure that will come with time. Who knows... this may evolve into something one day.

Graphics preferrably great, next-gen, but programmed right. A major issue with all these really good looking games that lag a lot if poor programming, creating memory leaks and many other problems. Hopefully we would be able to get it to a level where is runs smooth on the average PC, not likely, so much lower settings should be available.

I talked a lot about the skill system SWG uses and how a new games could evolve from that. I didn't really show you a picture though, so here you go. Of course, this only displays the advanced profession "Bounty Hunter"

I dont think that needs much explaining, it's just brilliant.

PvP, ability to choose wether or not to be activated for PvP through military areas, which would probably be called something else in game. This is also similar to SWG, and it worked very well. The strength of this over just choosing wether or not to go in PvP mode no matter where you are is that you can't just run away from somebody and click your PvP off after you have chosen to enter such a situation. You have to go find a base and turn it off, and there's even a timer after that. As long as your activated, you are free to kill. I'm sure there would be some nice faction stuff, but who knows, I haven't created this world yet.

Imagine for a second, if we took a really long time on this game, but made it into such a way that each class was so different and unique, and so much fun to play, that each class was like playing a whole new game. Not just like SWG, where you grind architect, you are doing the same stuff to create houses, then you do the same stuff to create armor. It may not be very easy to come up with something like that, but imagine the possibilities. Or, hell, just scratch that, lol.

I mentioned the futuristic sports thing in my previous post, but I didn't really get any opinions on that and was hoping to. This is what was entered:

Futuristic sports-type game that relies solely on skill only, and for winning you can receive great prizes such as experience boosters. If done well, like a whole different, GREAT, game, to get your mind off the grind, this could become huge. There could be insane guild competitions, tournaments for cash prizes, etc. And all based on the actual skill of the person behind the keyboard. When I say futuristic sports-type gameplay, a good example of what I mean would be something like blitz-ball from Final Fantasy X. Of course, more fun to play hopefully, lol.

Thanks for reading if you stayed long enough, who knows when I'll blog again.

My idea of a great MMORPG

First off, sandbox. The key ingredient in my opinion to a great MMO is a sandbox, not 100%, but pretty close. The greatest experience I have ever had online was with Star Wars Galaxies, before the CU and of course, before the NGE. The game is a complete joke now, due to these changes, but that’s another story. Star Wars Galaxies was great not only because the Star Wars world is just great in itself, but the overall design style of the game is not something we see very often. The skill-based system of Star Wars Galaxies was just fantastic. It was many, many profession trees, which branched off into advanced trees, and were limited by an under laying amount of Skill Points available. However, you could at any time unlearn any skills and then go learn new ones. The Jedi system, later introduced, forced many players who wanted the chance to become jedi to explore many professions paths, they were told which 4 professions to master first, by holocrons which costed a substantial amount of credits, then had to learn a random 5th. This wasn’t easy, there was different many more than 5. Then the housing system, also the best I’ve seen, the housing wasn’t instanced, and that’s very rare. The planets were huge and had random spawns, so room for cities and housing was plentiful. Houses were also fully customizable and you could decorate however you wanted. Enough about that, that’s a fine example of an almost perfectly done game, and it had the atmosphere that just immersed you right into the core of the game, and you really felt like you were living in the star wars world… I sure will miss it. You can look it up to find out more.

The perfect MMO in my opinion would be a MMO based on a completely new world that is new to everybody. For example, George Lucas gave birth to the epic world of Star Wars, J.R. Tolkien, Lord of the Rings, etc. I myself would prefer something completely different than what we have been seeing, which is pure fantasy. The whole dwarves, elves, and orcs thing is getting kind of old. Something that is perhaps as new and creative as star wars was when it first came out. I would prefer a sci-fi approach myself, but of course the possibilities are endless.

The skill system needs to be new and original, or at least follow a similar path as SWG. No levels, we’ve had enough of that. An evolving world with a very expansive choice of professions that maybe work In the same way or similar to SWG would be great. Something new and innovative would work too, but I can’t throw anything off the top of my head right now, I don’t usually write unless I’m pretty high.

Limited servers, if possible, only one. Obviously, if it were to hit as big as WoW, that wouldn’t be possible, but that’s fine, Preferably the world would be massive though, and uninstanced, as much as possible. I would prefer the MMO to be of course, as I’ve stated, a sci-fi genre, and in turn, have several planets to travel to and from. You may have realized by now, that my basic hopes are an evolved form of Star Wars Galaxies that really pushes the limits on everything. In all reality, I would truly love for this game to be a Star Wars Galaxies 2, but a new, different world sounds great and tempting as well.

An overlaying mysterious, very rare in lore, legendary being, or class, I hate that word, but I’m too high to get creative right now. Nobody knows how to obtain it at release, and it’s very hard. Much like the Jedi system in SWG.

Bars. You should be able to go into bars, and actually drink, which may buff you are enable you to do certain things, maybe even just for drunk fun. There should be gambling, or other bar games, available. There should be a profession that revolves completely around that, and maybe some other things for it to do. Bartender could be a noce profession, if drinks helped in some way. Of course, entertainers to buff in the bars. Maybe make your own sounds for playing music, or import your own music. Or, just release with damned good music, lol.

As many types of professions that you could imagine, all with reasonable grinding on basic ones, and harder on above. I hate the world grinding, but there has to be some element of it. Released with lots of professions, professions added often, as thought of.

Futuristic vehicles for mounts. Also of course a very good creature handling profession, which can also make money by selling mounts.

Crafting needs to be the main means of obtaining good weapons and other gear, no uber lewtz. Harvesting needs to of course be rich and deep too.

There’s so much running through my head, the possibilities are absolutely endless. I may hafta get my butt in gear and work towards getting my dream game started.

Futuristic sports-type game that relies solely on skill only, and for winning you can receive great prizes such as experience boosters. If done well, like a whole different, GREAT, game, to get your mind off the grind, this could become huge. I may rant more later but its really hard to think, I need to stop smoking so much pot.

Expect more, I'll probably go nuts on this for a while and try to go to college to end up in a position where I can do something like this. Then, more than likely I'll realize it's really hard and drop all my classes, but hopefully at least somebody might take my ideas into consideration. Thanks!
