PSA. WaR Healers and YOU!

I admit. There are a lot of healers that don’t heal in scenarios and RvR. Well, that’s not entirely correct. They are healing, they just aren’t healing you. They are healing themselves. I don’t understand this. I don’t understand why you would role a class that is geared for group support yet not try to perform that function. BUT, it’s your dime. Play your class the way you want to play it. What I am about to talk about doesn’t really pertain to bad healers. It pertains to healers that actually WANT to heal you and it pertains to the people that want to get healed. It also pertains to the people that may not have gotten a heal and are considering complaining about the lack of heals either to who they think the offending healer is or in /scenariosay.

My main is a warrior priest. If you were to ask my guild I would guess they would tell you that I am a “good healer” I rolled a WP understanding that it was a healer. I understood that generally if I was in a group my role would be to heal. That’s not to say that I can’t melee as well. I have several great skills that do good healing because I am hitting something. That being said, before you commit yourself to complaining about a healer or complaining you yourself aren’t getting healed you should ask yourself the following questions.

Question 1. Are you getting your ass kicked? I don’t mean one person is hitting you. I mean your something like a bright wizard and there are 5 marauders beating on you. At that point I can’t save you. Not even god can save you. Your going to die and my trying to keep you alive is a waste of heals that could be going to someone that isn’t doomed.

Question 2. Am I getting MY ass kicked? If I am getting beat on then the only person that is going to be getting healed is me. If I die that means no heals for anyone. The one exception to this is I may throw a group heal while getting beat on. That’s because I am concerned with healing myself so I can stay alive to heal you.

Question 3. Are you out of range? If I am standing in the back ranks and you sprint of into the enemies back ranks there is a good chance you are now out of my range. No, I will not move up to heal you. I am in the back ranks for a good reason. Probably because there are three sorcerers on the other team PRAYING that I move into range.

Question 4. Do you think I’m not healing you because I am hitting something? This goes more for WP’s. I have 2 skills that require me to hit something for them to work. One is my highest single target heal and the other heals all allies within 20 feet of my devensive target every time it lands. Don’t assume because I am fighting something that I am trying to be a DPS n00b.

Question 5. Are you ranged DPS and I’m trying to heal a tank? My primary concern in a scenario is keeping our tanks alive. If there is only one healer in a group and there is a tank you should be asking yourself this question. Yes, I have HOT’s and will use them on you whenever I can. But keep in mind it takes a lot to keep a tank up when they are getting hit by multiple enemies.

Question 6. How many healers are in the scenario? If there are any less then 3 then the chances of anyone other then a tank getting regular heals is pretty slim. Don’t complain to me, complain to people that don’t play healers. Again, I have HOT’s and I will throw them on you when I can but keep in mind that this is not always possible.

Question 7. Are you chasing someone? I don’t mean chasing down the witch elf that is trying to kill one of our back row casters. I mean that marauder that is fleeing that is at 30 percent health and your thinking “FREE KILL WOOT!!!” and you chase them ½ way across the map. Then you probably run into him but now he has a tank with him and you die. Then you wonder why I wasn’t there to heal you. I’m not splitting my self off from the group so you can get a kill.

Question 8. Are you a dick? Have you made a comment about crappy healing. Have you called me or another healer a noob. This is a really good way to NOT get heals. On the other hand saying something like “Hey, I know we are short on healers but if you get time during the battle can you throw a heal or two my way?” is going to put you on the TOP of my priority list for heals right after myself and the tank.

Remember. There are bad healers just like there are bad tanks and bad kittens. Don’t assume just because you didn’t get healed that the healer in your group “is teh suck”.

This has been a public service announcement sponsored by Healers of WaR local 157.

You gotta admit tho, like 50% of all disciples and warrior priests forget that they can heal other people. Its just like how 90% of your team wont rush fortress and when they finally do get there, they refuse to fight on the flag. 15 people in a small area and somehow one guy caps the flag, cause you die near the flag, and everyone else is on the damn bridge.

I play a Zealot.  I know what your saying here.  I made my Zealot almost pure wisdom based for healing others.  Now the only problem is, I seem to get rushed alot, why?  Cause healers the one that makes it take forever for them to take down our tanks.  If anything, I'd say if tanks want heals, they they have to help out there healers.

I've seen so many times where I'm getting beat on and tank types run right past you to go take down a bright wizard and get themselves worked over.  Then they wonder why nobody healed them.  Well duh, your healer was healing himself cause he was getting beat up.

But I'm sure there are others who don't know they can heal others or think there healing classes are dps with healing abilities.

i play a Runepriest and i completetly understand what your saying :)

i have had far too many DPS (mainly ranged) yell at me for not healing them when the tank and or other healers (and melee DPS) clearly need the heals more.  one thing i find so frustrating is that, even as a healer, its up to me to push forward to a flag so my team doesnt sit outside of cap range or even retreat.  why should a healer (a ranged one at that) be the one charging into the Destruction lines so my team will stop running like wusses.  its sad

I play DPS (Witch Hunter), so I want to share a little bit of how I see it on the other end when Im attacking the healer. First off I agree full heartly with a lot of what you said. As a DPS class, I never expect to get a single heal, until I hit the flee button and get the hell out of dodge. That is the risk that all DPS players (especially melee ones) should accept. 50% of the time I get into the rear, it a shooting gallery and I have pick at anyone I want. If I can take down one of the back casters in under 20 seconds everyone else tends to panick and run for fear of being the next one. The other 50% the healer holds his ground I get mauled by the inside linebackers (Tanks who pull to aid the rear) and must get back to my lines in hopes a healer spots my retreat and throws me a save.

1v1 a healer can beat most melee DPS. The 2 main reasons a DPS can kill a healer is because they've built up their max damage attacks or cause the healer is out of juice. But a lot of healers I see dont get this and at a moments notice will flee rather then stand and fight. This comes down to the core of a Tank and Healer relationship. Cover each other, the Tank must realize he needs to help the healer and the healer cant just abandon the tank

Not only this, but as you said in the first 2 remarks, sometimes the DPS has just outplayed the tanker-healer unit and has done everything correctly.

Also, commenting on Deaths post:

To me I will always see the ranged players as the snipers in FPS games. They expect that the world revolves around them. In fact everytime I see a ranged player take down another player I think they whisper "BOOM! Headshot!" to themselve as self gratification.

Something else I want to mention. I am actually stunned that, I the melee DPS am not shuned by everyone else. I have yet to hear a single comment from anyone in the WAR community that saying Im the scourge of the world and that my class should be banished for eternity. So thank you for not shunning me ;D

Most of the parts, so true... I am a rank 19 archmage, and here are the critical things:

1. Most powerful heals are long to cast. So

      a. if I get hit during the cast, they backfire damaging me and they fail.

      b. if I try casting them on a weak armored class on low health with enemies on them, they'll die before my spell lands on them, so I skip them according to the situation.

2. I try to heal other healers after the tanks (assuming tanks are doing their job good, otherwise I prefer healers first). Rule of the game is tanks die->healers die->everyone dies (and very quick).

3. If you are not geting healed, it means I am healing someone else or I am trying to get rid of the rogue class on my ass becouse you're not protecting me well. If only one person attacks the melee enemy attacking me, I am also forced to atack him to kill him before he kills me. If I do not do that, I die, and then you if enemy is organized (you wait 25-30 secs to respawn). So leave someone close to healers

4. I cannot land heal spells on you if you're out of line of sight. Heal range is decent, but if you charge the enemy and you turn a corner, sorry, sir, you'll die. If I follow you to heal you, we both die....

I hope these comments helps you understand why you may not getting your heals. Playing a haler has some tactics if you really know what to do in RvR

I play both sides of this, and everything you all have said is correct.

As a Witch Hunter, it makes my day to get heals while line-backing (or even sometimes while hitting their backline), but I certainly don't expect it from non guild groups.  You gotta accept that, as a WH, you're gonna die...a lot...but you'll do a LOT of damage - it's the trade off.

I also play an Archmage (at low level).  I'm sure this changes at higher levels, but I get trashed in melee, even by one line-backing is a -very- helpful thing to do.

@Death1942 - I agree completely...the healer should NOT be the one in the front line charging the flag stand just to get the team to move up.  The reason that I've seen that the team stays on the bridge is that all of the bright wizards are chilling out back there attacking the people at the flag...but not helping to cap it.   In t1 especially, Order typically has few to no tanks in their group for whatever reason...but that makes it hard to charge and hold against the masses of Chosen and B.Orcs.
