First look at Soul Master CB

SoulMaster is a game hosted by Gamecampus. It ha a unique blend of RTS and DOTA that is different from your usual genres of games.

So First in Soul Master it walks you through the tutorials. The Tutorials are reasonably paced to slowly teach you everything you need to know about the game. The basics of the game seem to be pretty intuitive and can be grasped fairly quickly. Obviously, like any other game, their is more then just the basic stuff XD

So PVE wise it starts off REALLY promising. The way this game works is you get a "lobby" area. It's a map with shops and such and you talk to NPC to start an instance dungeon to do your missions.

Channel 1 lobby, beside the Mission giver, it actually isn't laggy despite number of people.
Now the interesting thing is the maps all have different objectives to give you the full range of different gameplay's with this engine. You got a missions to tower defense, standard RTS (build buildings, spawn units, conquer), and Adventure (more or less main char run around get some units and own mobs in the path).
The storyline line seems solid with an NPC that follows you on missions telling you story in chat bubbles which makes me read it XD. Pretty sure no one read those long lengthy boxes of text in other MMOs, but I'm sure most people took time to read it in a chat bubble here XD
Lastly, and most important part, PVP. Seems you can only play it under same format of the RTS-ish game with your main char as hero.  The thing that makes it different is you don't need to kill enemy base to win. Their is a 2nd win condition of killing an enemy hero 3 times. This gives you an alternate way to win when you're struggling resource wise.
So enough of the overview of the game time to get down to the Pros and cons:
Nice CB events. The first event was a first 10 people to log in were rewarded 100 dollars to stress test their server. Suffice to say, with so many people rushing server, we blew up the login server. The events generally give their Item mall cash which is good since it carries over to Open beta. Not a bad thing to have so many people you over flow the server. Better then having to little XD (that is what beta test is for anyways, to test servers)
Unique gameplay. Now this is a tossup if you like the blend, but I enjoy it. Gives you a nice mix of RTS and Dota. Also removes most the Micro I suck at, so maybe that is why I like it XD
Graphics. Now this is yet another toss up, but I LOVE THE GRAPHICS. I'll post a pick of my toon. Their is some nice detail in the armors and Chibi = win.
PVP based. After level 9 or so (for better or worse) their is no more missions. You can choose to repeat missions for half the exp running it the first time, run long PVE dungeon for little exp, or PVP for EXP. Assuming your around 60-70% win rate, the exp still comparable to grinding. Good to get more people to PVP  *thumbs up*
Limited Classes. Due to gender locking and only 3 classes, it is clear their isn't much variety. Though a game like this is more about skill then character build so I can overlook it a bit. (that and they have a post about the new classes coming later)
Server load. Right now the servers are overloaded and cause some issues in game like random DCes. Hopefully that gets fixed or will be a serious hindrance.
Lack of PVE content. Getting people to PVP is nice but I wouldn't mind more missions to progress story. The 2nd map you go to is literally all grind with no story.
The unforeseen:
How big an impact will the Item mall be in the game. That is obviously a huge factor that has yet to be determined.
End notes:
For now Soul Master seems pretty interesting and the unique gameplay fits my strengths. The backbone of the game seems solid, just need some more fluff (missions, more classes). The CB is over but open beta begins on Auguest 12th, be sure to check it out
