Darkfall: Did you cancel?

As I sat here reading over all of the angry posts about what is going on regarding the US server issue, I got to wondering how many really pushed the button. I know I did. So today, here in my little corner of the world, I am asking how many of you actually canceled? Or, are you really, pissed off and just voicing your opinions in the forums and will go ahead and pay for a US client.

When I got my email confirming my cancellation, I sent back a reply to the Darkfall team telling them exactly why I did it. I also added a personal message to Tasos. I know I am but a single person, and I am sure they could care less about my one subscription, but it really did give me satisfaction.

Please let me know in a reply here if you canceled or not.

Well I have just been reading all of the flaming forum threads reguarding the latest news from Tasos reguarding the North American Server. It seems that if we want to play on the North American server on the day it opens we can purchase a new client. The other option of course is to wait 3 months and pay a fee to transfer with nothing.

To say we are dissapointed is just and understatement. Most of us bought this game, thinking it would be like all others and when the other servers came up, we would just reroll. I NEVER would have purchased the game had I known that I wouldnt be able to do this. So....even though I am liking the game, and I mean liking it a lot, as soon as I get done with this post, I will be cancelling my subscription. I will not give this company one more penny. If they were honest, they would have made it clear that a US client would also have to be purchased. I feel they clearly knew what they were doing.

If the day comes that I am able to play on a US server with the game I purchased, I may play again....till then see you around...

What has happened to Roleplay?

While beginning to explore Darkfall, I am still playing Starwars Galaxy. I know, I know, it is a dieing game and I am sitting on a dieing server, living in a dieing town....why can't I just push the button? Because I love the people I roleplay with. Even though there are just a few of us at this point, we still laugh together.

Lately, I have been wondering what the hell has happened to roleplay. I know some people that always scripted everything out. They are not my kind of roleplayer...I am a spontainious person. Each time I log in, I have no idea what I am going to do.  Most people that I play with play the same way. As the number of people on the server continues to go down, and friends continue to leave, it is causing changes in what happens around town.  Parties used to have 30-50 people show up on a given night. Now, if you get 10, it is a very successfull night. With less people, it is harder to keep conversation going. I think people are just giving up. It wasn't all that long ago that everyone was coming from Starsider over to Sunrunner where I play. Now, everyone has left and gone to Starsider. The towns are empty, the cantinas are empty and it is hard to keep morale up. But we keep trying.  I built a cantina and I have a party each Saturday. Some of us go visit other towns trying to find other roleplayers to invite to our events. We create general outlines of storylines. One such event is being planned now for our town of Persephone, Dantooine.  The general idea that is being planned is a "purifying" of aliens. We are working on finding enough players for both sides to make this a fun event.  Yesterday, I searched the server for roleplayers several times. I sent out invitations to this upcoming event only to have just one person answer me back. I just dont understand this. Everyone sits and whines there is nothing to do, but when there is something introduced, they dont even try to get involved.  What has happened roleplayers?

Darkfall update time...

I have died so many times, I have lost count. I have invented new cuss words. I have dented my new computer table...this game has all the possibilities of being my new all time favorite game. I still remember I uninstalled Ultima Online 4 times while learning to play it.

Yesterday I discovered that some of the major problems I was having were not normal faults of the game. Apparently Darkfall does not like the Wolf King Keyboards. If you have one, there is a fix (which has to be done each time you leave the game). The problem it causes is, when you change modes, or change most anything, it causes you to for 10-30 seconds. Wanna know how long it takes for someone to slice and dice you? So I got that all fixed up and began running around, mastering the moves, and trying to compleat a few quests, oh....and meeting the really lowlife bastard pkers ... oh wait...thats who I want to be....I mean my future friends. Honestly, I will do it with honor. I  have no plans to kill someone and take everything they own. Just the money and good stuff. And I dont plan on running around with my friends in full plate armor in noob zones. Dont people have ANY honor anymore? Oh well, their names are in my little book here that I have started. One day we will meet again.

First Impressions of Darkfall

Ok Ok so I got the game downloaded and installed and was ready to create and kill...registering the game is a bit clumbersom but I got past that. I finally got to hit the creation button. Honestly, Im sure my mouth fell open. In this day of being able to pick shades of colors and have almost any color of hair and skin you want, to only seeing 5 or 6 colors of hair got a "you are kidding" out of me. It was like this with all the choices. But I got past it. I just wanted a sort of cool  looking character made that could play. So I got Erynne created and entered the game ready to start swinging.

You know, it pays to take time sometimes to read directions. No matter what I did, I couldn't move. I am still not happy with the "mode" thing using the mouse. I finally got that figured out...and got to the bind stone where it was saying to use the "Use" key...What the hell...there is no "Use" key on my keyboard...back to the instructions. Ohhhh the "R" key...why couldn't they say the "R" key? Ok got past it. So Im off to kill...I found the NPC and recieved my first two quests to go kill some gobbies and off I went. I had my knife equipped (I think) and I saw the goblin camps. I had to swim in some water to get there, so I thought. hmmm lets gain some swimming. Ok enough of that, lets get to killing. I got back out of the water and found a goblin that more or less alone. I double clicked him...wait..he is hitting me and I'm doing nothing. What the hell? I do everything I have ever done to attack and my life bar is going down and Im screaming like a noob. As I woke up by the bind stone fully ashamed and disgraced, I decided I really needed to sit down and read all the directions. Sooooo I went back and read how to attack. I thought I also got the part about looting but that was one more trip to read up on. Im thinking by this time maybe I should print the instructions up.  It was about this time that I called it a day and decided to play again tomorrow.

Day One of Darkfall..

Well, the money became available a little earlier than I thought so today I began to download Darkfall. Already I have mixed feelings about this. The last game I had to download was Everquest 2. It took over a day and I had a good connection. Initially it said 2 days...yikes..I turned it on and left the room. As an update  it looks like its going to take around 3.5 hours.

It brings to mind a question to many people are not going to even be able to play? There are going to be many that don't have a good enough speed to even download the game and that is the only way to buy the game. It is not going to be available any other way. I understand the reason behind it...that way the producers have full control and it is out of country so more "mature" content will be able to be kept in the game. It just seems like maybe they could sell the disk from the company and retain the same control.

Many games have had to "soften" their content only to ruin the game. The first one that comes to mind is Ultima Online. One of the greatest features of the early game was being able to cut a corpse head off and also gut it and take out intestines, heart ect. This apparently was too harsh and was removed from the game. The next game that comes to mind is Age of Conan. The game opened with NPC's saying things and dressed differently than they are now...and this was a game that had a mature yes, I can see why a company would want to retain control. Good move on their part I think. Let's hope that money doesn't become an issue and force things to change.

Another Look at Darkfall

I first heard of Darkfall at the 2006 E3 conference in LA. It sounded like all of the other fantasy games out there, and it wasn’t even in beta, so it didn’t get much of my attention. We met Tasos Flambouras, and Kjetil Helland. My friend got a very good interview and saw some good footage. We actually invited them to our company party one night and they showed up. Great fun. Oh….and the tshirts were so very cool (I still have mine by the way. Thanks again Tasos.)

It has always been the goal of Tasos and the team to recreate the feeling that was had in the game Ultima Online. I am not talking about the watered down version. After the Trammel addition, the game was not the same. I am talking when if you killed someone, you could cut their head off and keep it as a trophy. You could loot them and make it truly hurt. If you were a thief, you could stealth into houses and rob someone blind. You could get onto boats and steal them. Believe me, there was emotion. In the old days if you lost your vanquishing sword it hurt. If someone took your black dye tub, it hurt. This is what the Darkfall team wants to recreate, and I think they have done that.

I am very anxious for the American server to open up. For the first time, I have a computer that will do what I want. For the first time, I am going to make a pvp character and she will kill from birth. She will go red and never know what the color blue looks like. I am anxious to be one of those people that players run from. I also can’t wait to start collecting resources. I was such a resource whore in UO. I remember when I finally packed up, I had way over 50 K of each herb, bottles, and anything else there was to collect. The crafting looks good. I am really glad that the team has stuck it out and produced a game that met their dream.

Gamegoddess Returns

Good or bad, I have decided to return to writing.  I began my writing career on Stratics...then I moved to Warcry and now, I have decided to move to my own blog. I have always done all of my writing under the name of Gamegoddess, and if you care enough to look, you can find a lot of my storys if you do a search.

I have been greatly inspired by a person that will always be my hero...Scott Jennings...or as I will always remember him.....Lum The Mad. Scott always just tells it as it is, good or bad, which is something I admire. I got to meet him several years ago at a Ren Faire down in Houston, Texas and again down in LA at E3. It is not often you get to meet someone you have on a pedistal. He went on to work for Mythic and write a book and become really famous and all of that know...hero stuff....but he is still just a normal person like us all...that likes to play games.

To give a little of my gaming background...oh god this makes me sound old...I began my gaming history in Ultima Online. I played that game from 1999 until 2006. There will never be another game like UO. Any veteran that played it will say the same thing. From there, I moved on to Everquest. I still remember the graphics. Who could not be amazed at the ground shaking as the large animals walked by or the snow leopards. I can still remember just standing there watching them. Next, came Dark age of Camolot. This game too had the greatest graphics. What made this game special was the sieging. Dear god, who can forget the hours of trying to save a fort? I can remember standing by a gate door doing nothing but doing repairs while people were running back and forth bringing resources. Good times that was. Next came Wish, Horizons, and Rhysom. I honestly don't remember enough about them to know what I liked or didnt like. I took a look at Dark and Light. My instant reaction was that I didn't like the color. I know, stupid thing but it is one of my gauges. There were things I loved about the game. I loved how you could take your shield off and slide down a snowy mountain. You could also take out a kite and fly. Next up was World of Warcraft. I remember the first time I layed my eyes on it...Wow...That became my personal guage on gaming. If I get an instant wow...its a winner.  There aren't many winners these days. I loved the graphics in WoW. The game was simple to play and had a good layout. The quests were good and it was just an all around good game. Even good things come to an end, and I moved on to Vanguard. The memories I have from Vanguard is how hard the crafting was and the building of the town. I thought the crafting was insane. It was imposible for a single person to achieve high level. My guild helped me enormiously. The town building was so poorly thought out. Thats a dead need to beat it again. Age of Conan was next. This was a wow. The graphics were fantastic. Everything about the game was beautiful. But...and it was a big was so powerfull, my machine couldn't play it. I tried and tried...I lowered everything there was to lower and I just couldn't play it. The next game I played was Starwars Galaxy. SWG offered great roleplay opportunities, great graphics, a lot to explore, great quests, and much more. I am still playing this game even though I think it's days are numbered. The people are all moving on to other games and it is getting really hard to find fun...but it is still there if you hunt for it. I have also looked at Lord of the Rings Online. This game was a wow. It has amazing graphings and the outstanding thing that this game offers is it's music system. There is no other game out there that even comes close with what it offers on music. I also really liked the farming. I took a brief look at Everquest 2. It was nice but failed to greatly impress me. I also took a recent look at Second Life. There are amazing things that SL has to offer. You can import Youtube right into your big screen tv in your can buy just about anytype of home you can imagine and decorate it with just about anything you can imagine. You can if you like be a dancer and turn the money you earn back into  US dollars and earn money. You can play in just about any scenerio that you can imagine. I started out as a human and bought a twi'lek skin and moved to a Starwars area of the game. I have my eye on Darkfall at the moment. My next story will be about that. See you soon and thanks for reading.
