The Tragic Romance of a Perpetual MMO Newb

A Blog by a casual, but always exited gamer. I hope to entertain, possibly provoke, and above all - make myself write more.

Hello World...

So, this is my first foray into the blogging world. Hell, aside from a few flirtations with forums this is my first real entrance into wide-audience internet communication at all. This post will mostly be about my reasons for starting this, and my intentions for it; hopefully the good stuff will come soon thereafter.

As it says in the title, I am a perpetual MMO newb. I love them, I'm just not very good at them. I am a casual player who never runs the math. If I stumble into a good build, it is because I loved the concept and it just happened to work. I don't have the patience to grind, farm, craft for long, or any other truly repetitive task. And I have a sporadic attention span, easily distracted by other games or my severe (and sometimes nearly terminal) altoholism. But for all that, I truly love them. I love the worlds, the customizability. Even though I solo more than group I love to look over, see another character, and know it is another real person enjoying the same world as me.

So why am I here writing about them instead of there playing them? Because I am a writer who has been having trouble finding motivation to write. So I picked a subject I love, and an arena where more writing is expected of me. And thus I ask you - comment, criticize, throw those tomatoes. I'm counting on it.

I have been playing with computers since elementary school, and pen and paper role-playing just as long. In the next installment of this blog I hope to set up the common theme. I intend to relate my love affairs with the MMO; my enduring loves, my one-night stands, and even the ones that half a bottle of Jack Daniels can't wash away. I'm going to start at my beginning and go from there. I hope you stick around for the ride.
