Due to various problems with it, I have decided to redesign the user input system again. I am currently in the research/planning stage, so unfortunately I can't say much... Hopefully I'll be able to report that this is finished in the next issue!

This week's community activity is highlighted by the formation of /its/, an off-topic thread meant to emulate /b/ in a more G-rated setting.

In other news, a new SAO clan named "the Lost Fleet" has been created by Silenced. Best of luck to them!

Jay has reached level 43 in SAO, and somehow also finds time to play Loradon. If you have any ingots, checkout his ad in the marketplace.

The discussion for Loradon Legends is still going on. Giygas and others are deciding who should be the legends in the fangame. It is a cool idea and I hope it will be fun.

I have decided to combine the renderer and graphics core, since there was not much point in keeping them separate. Using a renderer should make the game run faster, since the vertices will no longer need to be recalculated every frame.

The new user input event system is difficult to manage, so I am going to make some changes to it. The user interface will now register a single input event handler rather than a handler for each event. The user interface will then register events to that event handler. When one or more of the registered events are triggered, the triggered events are packaged together and sent to the event handler. The event handler will then sort them out and... Handle them, heh.

The brazier has been finished.

In order to prevent spoiling too much, there won't be an artist's easel after the bank is finished, unless I am working on concept art or another big background image. In order to make this section last, I'll be working on other parts of the town along with the bank (however, I'll only show the bank's progress).

There was a burst of activity in Stick Adventures Online this week, with as many as 13 people online at once! It was pretty fun to compete for the Itsy Bitsy training spot. Miotatsu and I battled for a while but eventually made a truce to share the training spot. InvaderKED has reached level 43, which is pretty cool as well. It is always good to see an active community and some new members.

I have tried the Loradon Legends (working title) demo and it is fairly impressive. It is sort of a one player version of Loradon 2.1 since the graphics are the same and maps are almost identical. The art and maps were originally made by IfThen Software LLC, used with permission by Giygas. We hope it will turn out to be a fun way to remember Loradon, and give us something to do while we wait for the release of Loradon 3.0!

I have decided to use the collision detection demo to test various design changes that I have been wanting to try. One of those changes is a renderer.

With the current (old) design, the current state and every object in the game has a Render() function which is called once per game loop. This function draws all the graphics related to the object/state.

The renderer removes the need for a Render() function (besides the one that is in the renderer). The state and each object can request a render set from the renderer. Using the render set, "renderables" can be registered which represent sprites or any other graphic that needs to be drawn. The object/state receives a pointer to the renderable, which allows the renderable to be moved, given a new color, or any other normal graphic change. When the renderer's Render() function is called, it draws every renderable that is registered. This would also allow certain optimizations, such as grouping renderables that use the same texture.

I finished the carpet and added a brazier to make the bank more interesting. The animation still needs some work though.

Following Rman's advice (mentioned in Newsletter #32 "Fish Eye"), some players have begun to play Loradon 2.1 more actively. Hopefully, the in game population will rise as more players take Rman's advice.

Also, Vayne, one of the Legends of Loradon, began a Pen and Paper game based on Loradon. The game is taking place on the Loradon forum and is, in many ways, similar to DnD. Many forum-goers have started to participate and the game is expected to be very popular and might bring in some more players to the Loradon world.

I think I have finally learned enough about collision detection to actually make use of it. I am going to create a collision detection demo to test things before putting them into the game. The demo will involve moving a circle around the screen, and there will be various shapes (square, circle, and triangle) which your circle can collide with. I plan to release the demo in an upcoming newsletter, so be sure to keep reading!

Wow, secret feature #4 is taking a long time, I hope it's good! I'm glad GreyKnight finished the page he was working on, so more things can be finished. I've become really excited for both Loradon 3.0 and Stick Adventures Online. I'm excited for updates to come and for the community to get involved more. It will be a fun and exciting time. Until then, we shall continue making random topics, helping new people, and waiting for the future updates :)
