I started coding again last Monday. It felt good to be working with solid code again rather than math!

Before I start work on "Secret Feature #4" I am going to clean up the GUI code. It is currently quite a mess, with most of the code packed into a couple of functions. Each major GUI element (such as the inventory window) will get it's own class. This should greatly clean up the UI handling code since there will no longer be bits of different windows intertwined.

This week has been another fun and exciting week over at the IfThen Software community!

Loradon 3.0 is progressing at a good rate of 1% each day. Since GK's work is now on the progress page, we should be able to see increases in progress more often and not have to wonder about things not on the page.

On the Stick Adventures Online subforum, I've seen some pretty cool submissions, and some have made it to the fanart page. I've started a forum thread for an art competition, where anyone can submit an SAO/stickfigure related picture, made in ms-paint or any other software. InvisibleMan will put the winner on the fanart page, and they will also get an SAO noob-killing character. I hope this will make the forums a bit more active, fun, and friendly.

Last week, our lead programmer InvisibleMan was interviewed by the 404 Radio crew. IfThen Software was discussed in general and information on a secret Loradon 3.0 feature was released! Be sure to check out episode #11 which can be downloaded via their RSS feed.

404 Radio Website: http://www.tamworthgamers.co.uk/

Warning: There is swearing in this podcast, so if you are offended by that you might want to only listen to the first half of episode #11.

Overall progress for the Loradon 3.0 Preview has reached 55%! We are not planning on making any further changes to the progress page (unless something needs to be fixed), so this should be a bit more accurate now.

After skimming the table of contents for the collision detection book, I have decided that I can skip about half of it. My current estimation is that I will be done by the end of next week. After that, this section might become interesting again!

On a side-note, I made a program to go through all SAO characters to find which ones were created by the same person. Characters are stored in individual files, so it's not as simple as querying a database server. It turns out that the Win32 API has a trio of functions for finding files, so creating this program was easier than I was expecting it to be.

This week has been fun since many people are trying the new monster! The leader boards thread made by miotatsu has been very active, as players have been gaining ranks, and even I have been passed up :) I am now ranked 4th and need to level up to 45 to be technically 3rd rank. I plan to do this soon to create more competition and fun.

For Loradon 3.0, it is fun to see an interview from 404 Radio! The interview was very interesting to hear, and the guys over at 404 Radio seemed pretty cool. My thanks go out to them for doing an interview and giving the community some praise. I would like our community to have a good reputation, and I suppose it is getting one, for being a friendly, small community that it is.

Stick Adventures Online v1.2.0 has been released! This version includes a new monster and a slightly bigger map. Head on over to http://www.ifthensoftware.net/StickAdventuresOnline/ and check it out!

The Loradon 3.0 progress page has been updated to reflect the current state of the game. Progress has gone down to 53%, however it should go up twice as fast now that the artist's jobs are taken into account.

There isn't much to write about this week, aside from saying that I finally finished the 3D math book and am starting in on the collision detection book. I am estimating this will take me about 5 weeks to get through. However, this will all be worth it!

Happy Birthday! It is InvisibleMan and GreyKnight's birthday today! Drop on into IRC sometime or make a post on the forums, also it wouldn't hurt to make a paypal donation ;)

This week in SAO was pretty fun killing a new monster in a new extension of the map, but I didn't see as much excitement as I hoped. Some new players still came into the game, and after only a few minutes, asked when the game would be updated. It is hard to answer every time that we all must wait until after Loradon 3.0's release to get any updates. Oh well, I did see some excitement even though the updates were referred to as "The Land of Poo". Hopefully this isn't an insult to GreyKnight's art skills. Keep in mind, this game is sort of a cartoony, simple graphics game.

As for Loradon, I was excited to hear that some updates will be left out, not to void my last article, but this will make the release come sooner even though content is left out. In all honesty, I will be happy with the demo and game no matter what it turns out to be. Just try to look on the optimistic side of things, it will be easier to bear the waiting time :)

If you might, for any reason, need to change an executable compiled from VB6 code, hold on to that VB6 install CD for dear life! Last week we needed to move the server to a new location, which also means that the IP for the server changes. The Loradon 2.1 servers connect to the database server with a static IP, rather than a hostname. This caused the Loradon 2.1 servers to break, so I have been trying to find a way to edit the IP without recompiling the servers. I ended up using dyndns.com to create a hostname that would fit into the old IP's string and used a hex editor to replace the old IP with the dyndns.com hostname.

Last week the servers were put down and they have been set up at a new location. With no IRC chat or games up, the community was, of course, left to only the forums. I always think it is funny how many players do not play the game actively or join IRC every day will complain about the servers being down or issues with them. It has only been a few days and IRC is already up.

As Loradon3.0's progress page shows, the percentage has gone down due to more content being added on the to-do list. I am not disappointed because this means there will be more content in the preview when it does come out, and it was just added to the equation, so progress has not gone backwards, the game is still moving forward as far as development, so please be patient as the developers try to make the best first impression possible!

Stick Adventures Online cannot be put up yet because some changes have been made, exciting ones at that. Hopefully this small addition can be a fun surprise to players and give us all something to do while Loradon3.0 is being worked on. While privately testing, I noticed 3 bugs, that's in more than one way. ;) If the SAO server is put up now, everyone will have issues connecting and logging in. Please be patient while these issues are fixed, that is the server kicking you on your first attempt to login, you must retry for it to work. A slightly less severe bug is a message saying the server is down when it is really up, and it may say it on retry, but the client will not exit.

Thanks to all who keep up to date with the Community Spotlight Article and the rest of this newsletter,
As an incentive, I've included hints to what the small addition to SAO is.
You'll have to see for yourself what and where it is :)

I have spent the last week learning 3D math to get ready for some changes to the game. No, we aren't making it 3D, but knowing more about collision detection is needed.

I plan on spending the next 3-4 weeks going through 3D math and collision detection books, so unfortunately you probably won't hear much from me. Although I could write about what I learned, I am unsure that would be very interesting for most of you. Please comment and let me know what you think!

P.S. I think I will be having nightmares of quaternions for the next month...

Dev Demo Report
Written by Invisible

Due to the lack of a demo last week, there is no dev demo report for this issue. There most likely won't be a demo for another few weeks, so this section will be omitted until demos are released to the internal testing team again.
