EVE online: Pirate Invasion

This was a fine evening in the outer reaches of the EVE universe. Here I was sitting plushly in my fine Hyperion BS just outside the gate to the mission site with two of my better fighters Dict and Hermo to help me finish this Pirate Invasion mission my agent had given me few moments ago. Our goal was to stem the flow of angel pirates into our space and do it in such a way that they would think twice before trying again.

I had put on armor setup that I had been using for some missions against pirates from other faction and had worked very well but I was soon to find out that in this mission it would fail me. In mid slot I had 100mn afterburner because I like to be able to move relatively fast in my BS between gates in mission and also to be able to move quickly away from big swarms of npc rats if I needed to. In low slots I had typical tank, gank setup, one LAR II, (Large armor repairer II) eplosive and kinetic hardener II, one EANM II (Energized adaptive nano membrane) and two MFS II (magnetic field stabilizers).

We did talk a bit about how to work the mission before jumping in and in main the plan was that I would jump in first in my BS and take aggro from 1-2 groups and then they would jump in and fire at will at the rat ships closest to me, and then I would get aggro from the other group of pirates until I had full aggro, very simple plan for sure. When I was sure all was clear and everybody understood the plan, not hard to do as we were only 3 in the fleet :)  I activated the gate and jumped in.

I really think that having two BS pilots with me was making me err in judgement because even if I had run this mission solo many times then I usually aggroed only 1-2 groups at a time and tanked incoming damage while taking them down.

It was easy at first in there as only 1-2 groups of 4-6 angel BS's and some cruisers and frigs aggoed my ship and started to fire at me so I could easily tank incoming damage. I watched my shield disappear very quickly and then the damage started to eat into my armor but when I activated my LAR it repaired the armor completely and kept it in the green. Then I sent message to my gang and told them to jump in and join me in killing those damn angel rats. When they had arrived I locked ships from the rest of the pirate groups and fired at them to get full aggro. That might not have been the brighthes idea that I've had because then I suddenly had up to 15 BS's firing at me and a lot of cruisers and frigs. I had told my gang to focus on the cruisers and they were doing good job in blowing them up but as one was flying Armageddon Amarr BS and the other in Caldari Raven I knew it would take them some time to clear out the cruisers.

I sent my drones against the frigs to be sure that no warp scramblers would keep me in there if I wanted to warp out and also to take down the webbers. That was a very good move because things very quickly turned to worse and my armor started to melt down, I watched it go down to 60%, 50%, 40% and continue receding, so I sent message to my gang to prepare to warp out if and when I told them so, and 10 sec later my armor was down to 20% so I gave the order, Warp Out, Warp Out, and pushed the Autopilot button on my ship, none to soon because my armor was down to 10% when at last my ship got into warp. They got out safely and we docked to talk things over and I decided to refit my ship to take into account all this damage from full aggro in there.

This time I put on another LAR II instead of one of the MFS II and got some more drones that I lost when I had to warp out and we met again at the gate to the mission. I jumped in locked and shot at some of the BS's and they joined me in there. I gave broadcast target to my gang and then locked one ship from each group until I had full aggro, this time my armor went down to 40% and stayed there as my gang had cleared most of the cruisers in the previous attemp to stop those bloody angel pirates and I had gotten 3 of the BS's before jumping out last time. So we cleared the system of all angel rats and I reported to my agent and told him the good news.

He was quite happy and thanked me for job well done, but when I asked for another mission he told me the angel rats were back in our system so could I please go there and stop them right now. I was not very happy as last time me and my gang did not get through it as easily as I thought we should have but accepted and told my gang the good news, more fun and lots of hard angel rats to kill.

So outbound again and this time we would show those angel rats who was the boss in this system. I decided that we should try to use same plan as last time and they agreed. I jumped in, got full aggro and started to blow up the first BS with my tech II railguns while sending the drones for the frigs. Told my gang to jump in and they started to blow up the cruisers. I was a bit careless this time as I thought my armor tank would hold out much better this time and only activated one LAR II at first, but I was in for a surprise as suddenly my armor started to go down much to quickly and when I acitvated the seccond LAR II my cap started to go down to quickly also. My armor was down to  60% and then really started melting down as more angel BS's zeroed in on my Hyperion and inced closer and closer, I watched my armor go down to 50%, 40% and continue receding so I sent message to my gang to be ready to warp out, called in my Hammerhead tech II drones and when my armor was down to 20% I gave the order to Warp Out, and pushed the Autopilot button on my ship.

My ship should have warped out but did not, to my horror I realised that I had been so confident about my armor that I had not aligned my ship to the warp out stargate. While my huge and slow Battleship was turning so slowly around and aligning to warp out I watched my armor disappear and my structure taking hits, even if I was repairing it nonstop using both large armor hardeners all the time. My structure went down to 70%, 60%, 50% and my ship was almost aligned even if it was taking ages for it to turn. Fortunately my armor repairers gave me some protection and got my armor up to 10-15% now and then, but I saw that my structure was almost gone, it went down to 20% and I thought that I had lost my fine Hyperion BS, but then luckily the warp drive kicked in and I got out with 15% structure. That was a really close call and more scary than fun.

My corp members got out safely and we docked to talk things over and to give me chance to get over this close call. I decided to refit my ship again to take in account all this damage from full aggro of all rats in there. I put on another explosive hardener II instead of the MFS II and threw out my 100mn  afterburner and put in another Capacitor recharger II and out we went again, warped in and quickly blew up all the angel rats in there and then I docked at  my agents station to tell him the good news.

He was happy that we had stopped the angel rats and did not even blink when I told him that I had almost lost my fine Hyperion BS.

I asked him for another mission and surprise, surprise, the angel rats were trying to storm our system for the third time. I accepted the mission, we used the same plan as before and this time my full active armor tank held out fine even if it went down to 20-40% armor most of time.

So we finished the mission and I went back to my agent and told him the good news. This time he told me we had stopped those bloody angel rats for now and our system was safe and sound, hopefully for some time.

In hindsight I think that my overconfidence came from running those missions solo and aggroing only 1-2 pirate groups at a time and also thinking that two more BS pilots should be able to clear out the angel cruisers and BS's so fast that I could tank all incoming damage. Well you live to learn and this time I survived and learned the lesson even if it was one of the closest calls in my carreer as mission runner in EVE.

Mining in EVE and ore thiefs

There I was parked close to one of the asteroidbelts in the Korama solarsystem in my shiny Hulk. I was busy  mining Veldspar, Scordite and Pyroxeres ore and filling up one jetcan (jettisoned container 28.000m3)  after other and feeling very relaxed and peaceful.

I like to go mining now and then even if my true love is to run level 4 mission and blow up mission rats of all kinds and expecially the mission structures because as they make such a cool explosion when they blow up.

There was only one other miner in the belt with me and he was cargomining, mining into the cargohold of his ship until it was full and then docking at station, unloading and then warping back to his bookmark in the asteroidbelt to mine more ore.

Suddenly another small ship appeared in there and started to move over to one of my jetcans that was furthest away from me. I decided have a better look at this suspicious ship just in case and saw it was small hauling ship and when I looked up the info on the pilot I saw he was only a month old pilot in EVE so I wrote down his name just in case if he was going to try to steal some ore from my can.

I kept on mining until suddenly he started to blink red in my overwiev and the 15 minute aggression timer started, and then I knew he had gone all the way and stolen some ore from me. I filled up my cargo from nearest can, unlocked all my three mining lasers and choose to dock at the station where I kept my Hyperion battleship (BS). When I had docked at the station I left my mining ship as fast as was humanly possible and boarded my BS and undocked from the station. When I was free from the station I set course to the BM (bookmark) of my jetcan and choose to warp to within 20 km from it, on the way I made my warp scrambler, webber, guns and drones ready for the fight.

Unfortunately he had left the asteroidbelt while I was away so nobody was there to shoot at when I got there but I decided to warp to another belt, wait a bit and then warp back in the hope he would try to steal some more. I was lucky as when I got back he was there blinking red to me only 23 km away so I activated my microwarpdrive and hurried over there very quickly, locked his ship, started firing with my guns, sent out my drones to attack and warp scrambled him when I was within 20 km form him, webbed him to slow him down when I got to 10 km and blew his ship to pieces in 5-10 secconds.

It was fun but it was also a bit shameful because using BS to blow up small hauling ship is total overkill but as he was thief so be it.

To make things more fun  he contacted me and asked why I had blown him up and when I told him it was because he had stolen my ore he apologized and said that he had thought it was a deserted can so he could take it. I knew as well as he that it was very lame excuse but as he said that he was sorry then I decided to give him 2 mil so he could buy another ship and modules to replace what I had blown up and also I hoped he had gotten the lesson and would not steal soon again.

So you can see that mining can be both fun and sometimes exiting as so often happens in the EVE world.

EVE online: The Gone Berserk level 4 mission

On last Friday I had 40 min to spare so I asked my level 4 agent in Korama if he had a mission for me and not surprisingly he had one. I and he have gotten to be as good friends as is possible between pod pilot and agent, meaning that he tolerates me and has given me 10.0 in standings.

This time he wanted me to run the Gone Berserk mission and my goal was to stop those EoM fanatics from running all over the place. I'm mostly solo lvl 4 mission runner and run those mission in my fine Illuminator, Hyperion BS and use only tech II modules. So I fitted my ship with two EANM II (energized adaptive nano membranes) and kinetic hardener II and thermic hardener II, one Large Armor repairer II and two MFS II (magnetic field stabilizers) for more damage to hurry up things.

I got to the place that my agent told me to I would find those dratted EoM fanatics and soon enough 3 cruisers and 3 EoM BS's appeared and their pilots started the usual trash talking, calling me infidel and stupid and basically telling me to get the hell out before they would crush me and my ship.

That did not deterr me from locking them all and I set my Arbalest Cruise missile launcher and 3 x 425mm railguns II' and my 4 x 350mm railguns II on the first BS and started to ruin its day very fast. In the meantime I sent 5 of my good and trustworthy Hammerhead II's drones against one of the cruisers and the fun really started. To make long story short then I blew up 12 EoM BS's and lots of cruisers and my wallet got thicker by the minute. I just love to blow up those rats in EVE :)

When my time in EVE was getting shorter I realised that I could not loot and salvage all those wrecks so I asked in Local chat room (chat room for all in that solar system) if anybody was interested in getting the loot and salvage. This time one brave pilot answared and after chatting with him a bit and checking out his info to see if he was in pirate corp I invited him to gang with me, asked him to warp to me, and when he got to the mission site he BM (bookmarked) one of those wrecks so he could find them again and I said goodby and enjoy.

EVE online - Johalla MegaThor Corp in War

I'm Howatch Johalla the CEO of Johalla MegaThor Corp in the EVE universe and my corp is mostly friendly mission runners, industrial and production corp with little pvp practice but lately we are getting used to war declarations and getting much more pvp practice than we really want. We have lived peacefully in EVE for more than two years and helped a lot of of young pilot to find their wings and to fall in love with the wonders of EVE.

We thrieve on friendship, do some research and mining. We love going on missions and to hunt pirates. Our goal is to become powerful and rich. All pilots older than one month in EVE are welcome, now recruiting !

Our best friend corp in EVE is BRI, BladeRunners Inc, later transformed into Relentless storm Cartel STRMY. I was so lucky that I met the CEO of that corp before she started BRI and got to run a lot of mission with the Lady Mortus in there while she was starting to fall for EVE. But that peaceful existence of helpful guidance and fun loving life in EVE came to abrupt stop a mont ago as we started to get a lot of attention from other corps as they decicded that they wanted to wage war against us for fun or to try to bully us.

The first corp to declare war against us was medium sized corp with 15 experienced pvp members callerd v i r u s. That war began on 2. may 2008 and sorry to say they killed too many of our Battleships and Battlecruisers and frigates in the first week and we lost 6 BS's and some 4 BC's and some frigs and sadly one precious Hulk in that single war. They demanded that we pay them 300 mil ISK as protection tax and promised they would never declare war against us again if we paid them. I told them in firm but polite way that we would never pay them anything even if the war lasted forever. They retracted the war 20. of may which was good thing for my corp as that war really hurt my corp members to much.

Next war declaration came on the 17. on may from the corp Death Merchants, which is only 2 man corp and even if that war lasted for 3 weeks until Concord invalidated it on the 6. of june, we never met anyone from that corp and did not fight single fight against them, so that war was more show than tell thing.

Third war declaration came on the 12. of june from Primos Locos 36 member corp that looked like it had a lot of old experienced battle hardened members. That war was invalidated by Concord on the 19. of june without any loss of ship which was probably a very lucky thing for us.

Forth war declaration came from 9 member corp called One Million ISK and only lasted from 17. of june to 19. of june when that corp retracted the war derclaration.

Since then we have lived in peace and I hope that this war period is over for now and we can keep on doing our best to have fun, fly in peace and help young pilots in EVE.
