The Forum Game is Real Life

I'm a lurker for the most part.  While I might register for a forum I rarely remember to actually login as I rarely post.  Though there have been some in the past that have jerked me in to discuss the MMO of my dreams - this includes Vanguard Forums (prelaunch), Metaplace, and a few others.

Is anyone else noticing that The Forum Game is getting more and more heated?  Been lurking around Darkfall and absolutely amazed at the anger and frustration being expressed at an Indie Developer.

One argument that has astounded me is that because it's indie they should charge less?  Huh?  If I remember right EVE costs more than any other MMO and could rightfully be considered indie when they first came on the scene.  And MMO's don't cost a ton of money for the entertainment they give.  Around the price of going to a matinee once a month you get hours and hours of game time.

Have any of the people thinking that MMOs aren't worth the money looked into what it takes to run one?  I'm not talking developing one - that's it's own financial nightmare - but run one?  There are all kinds of things to manage and keep track of such as accounts, community (forums, wikis, web sites etc), hardware, distribution, bug fixes, and security.

What also amazes me is the folks actually rooting for Darkfall to fail.  Why, even if you don't like the game, would you want it to fail?  Is the objective now not about finding a game to play but instead to go out of your way to hurt people in real life?  Not just telling forum posters that they're idiots but also devs that they're worthless?  What ever happened to graciousness?  If you don't like a game why continue posting?  Learn to move on, though that is hard as there isn't a lot new to change focus to.  I wonder why?  Would you actually invest years of your life to develop something just to get this amount of grief?

Anyways just had to post about the fact that The Forum Game being played by a lot of people is not really a game at all but Real People in Real Life expressing their opinions.
