Browser Based Battlestar Galactica Flies Off Into the Sunset After 8 Years

Today is a sad day for players and fans of browser-based Battlestar Galactica Online as it has finished its eight-year run. The announcement was made early in January that the game would be closing on January 31st after rumors of its impending closure had been circulating for months. "We wanted to take the time to consider all possible options but after all efforts, it became clear that we will no longer be able to run Battlestar Galactica Online," the announcement reads.


New Features Added in Latest Update

Battlestar Galactica Online developers have announced the addition of several new content features arriving with the latest patch. New features include advanced flight controls, a new Battlespace Sector and a public test server for players to get advanced looks at forthcoming content.


Festival of Kobol Kicks Off

The Battlestar Galactica Online team have announced that the Festival of Kobol has officially commenced and will run through August 12th. During the festival, players will have a chance to win in-game rewards, many of them limited editions, and to participate in fun games.


Celebrating Its First Year

Battlestar Galactica Online will soon be celebrating its first anniversary and the dev team has some gifts for players logging into BGO between April 30th and May 6th. The exact nature of the gifts remains unknown, but players logging in each day during the week, will have access to a nifty prize package as well as an increased Daily Merit Cap.


Carriers Begin Space Trials

Bigpoint has announced that selected pilots will be able to take the new Carrier class ships out for a spin on the test server as the trials for the new behemoth ships begin. Players will need to be level 30 or above to be selected for the test. Carriers are support and supply vessels for the fleet that can serve as a mobile outposts, repair and recharge resources, coordinators of tactical offense.


Bipoint & gPotato Partner Up

gPotato and Bigpoint have announced a partnership that will see some of Bigpoint's most popular browser titles now being offered via the gPotato gaming portal. Most notable among the games to be featured on the gPotato portal is BattleStar Galactica Online. To celebrate the new partnership, players are being offered several cool contests for some pretty sweet swag.

According to the post, several balance revisions and changes have been implemented with specific regard to armor and armor piercing, player ships, computer systems and many more.


Private Instanced PvP Matches Coming

PvPers in Battlestar Galactica Online will be happy to hear that this week's game update will include private instanced PvP matches and ranked matches to determine which player is 'top gun'. In addition, the dev team has announced two new star systems will be added, Veil Sector - Nilfhel and Muspell - containing high level NPCs for squadrons to battle.

Battlestar Galactica Online has scored over two million registered players in just over three months of active service.
