Battlecruiser Online Overview
Battlecruiser Online was the first online foray for the Battlecruiser series, originally begun for PC in the late 1980s. This sci-fi space action sim, intended to be an online version of the Battlefield Generations (renamed Universal combat later) game world, contained a single-player offline component as well as an MMO portion. The game lacked crafting or monster hunting, focusing instead completely on space combat, raising forces, driving or flying, inhabiting planets and engaging in strategy to reign supreme.
As with other entries in the series, BCO would have contained over 50 unit types, over 20 alien races, weapon unlocks, and many planets and star maps to play on and to explore. Players could explore both planet and space in a variety of vehicles. There were set to be several career modes, which take some RPG elements and let players earn progressive ranks like pilot or commander.
Battlecruiser Online was canceled by its developer, Derek Smart and development shut down.
