Our month long celebration of the 2014 games continues, as we open up voting on Best Indie RPG, Best Indie MMO, and Best "Almost MMO".
Now it's important to note that the games nominated in each of these categories are those that officially LAUNCHED in the calendar year 2014. So if you don't see one from 2013 listed, or one that's only entered beta or early access, fret not. It will get its chance in the next round of awards or our veteran categories still to come.
We're including Destiny and Elite in the "Almost MMO" category as well, because we believe that in the coming years we're going to see a lot of games that straddle the line between simply multiplayer and MMO. In the coming years we might just begin to call them MMOs, but for now games like Destiny and Elite will share the category with MOBAs and CCGs like Hearthstone. We'll change our policy in the next year depending on what you all think.
In terms of games like Starbound, Rust, and so forth in the Indie MMO category, we believe that since these games can host dozens of players in one shared persistent world that they should count as MMOs. And that's a distinction we've been making for years now since Jon and Dana's time at the helm.
For now, take a look at these three categories and make your voices heard! These polls will be open until sometime Saturday, January the 17th.
Good luck to all the entrants!
