Ever wonder what MMO would win in an all-out fight? Ever want to see it happen in a nice, neat, and concise user-voted tournament bracket? Well, now is your chance! We've picked 16 of the most venerable MMOs along with 16 of the freshest games on the block to battle it out.
We know that some of your games might not have made this list, and we're sorry for that. Some had to be left off to make sure we kept the brackets manageable. But fear not! If this feature is deemed fun by you all, we'll bring it back next year and do some smaller more targeted Face-Offs too (sandboxes, PVP centric games, etc). For this one, we wanted to pull in some of the greatest MMOs of all time, but we also made it a rule to only include games that are still running. Sorry SWG fans, maybe in a "Best Dead Game" poll. For the 16 "Newbies" we made a cutoff of games having to be about 3 years old or younger and we picked the highest rated ones from those that met this requirement. This should make for an interesting time next year, when some games (like Rift) move to the Veterans list while others might drop off completely depending on how these votes go.
This week is the primary round, with all 32 teams facing off in randomly chosen brackets designed at Challonge, so get voting!
