BEST RPG: Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey

Runners-Up: Pillars of Eternity, Kingdom Come: Deliverance

There were some absolutely amazing RPGs this year. But the one that so many of us have played, are playing, and will likely play into 2019 is the Greek Myth-infused tale of Kassandra and Alexios. A stunningly huge world filled with interesting quests, stories, and systems, AC: Odyssey has proven to be one of the year’s best games, and is our best RPG out of the huge number of great ones released in 2018.

Runners-Up: Destiny 2, Warframe, Monster Hunter World

Edging out the comeback of Destiny 2, the always solid Warframe, and the excellent Monster Hunter World PC port, Path of Exile once again proved that few live games do updates and expansions as well as Grinding Gear Games. The online action RPG that all should aspire to be, GGG’s opus continues to improve and impress with each new patch.

MOST ANTICIPATED MMO: Torchlight Frontiers

Runners-Up: Ashes of Creation, Dual Universe, New World, Lost Ark, Crowfall

While there were many in contention, as 2019 looks to be a year where lots of games finally “launch” (or hit Early Access), the runaway winner with nearly half the votes was Echtra’s Torchlight Frontiers. Played by several of us at shows and in Alpha tests, the MMO version of the venerated Action RPG series may just give Path of Exile some needed competition when it launches later this year. Oh, and before Bill tells me to write it - please also put it on the Switch, guys.

BEST OVERALL MMO: Elder Scrolls Online

Runner-Up: FFXIV

The two games at the top of our voting for Best MMO of the Year should come as no surprise - ESO and FFXIV remain among the very best the genre has to offer with some of the most ambitious and resolutely solid content updates. Sporting some of the most devout and friendly communities to boot, it could be said that both games are deserving of the title. But this was a vote, and Zenimax Online Studios’ Elder Scrolls Online once again edged out Square Enix’ Final Fantasy XIV to take home the Best Overall MMO award. Congrats to everyone at ZOS on work well done!
