And the Game of the Year 2023 winner at The Game Awards 2023:

Baldur's Gate 3!!!!

Larian is up there accepting the award in full-plate armor. Love it, and much deserved.

Timothee Chalamet is here to introduce the Game of the Year award, with a brief interlude by the Game Awards Orchestra.

Just a refresher, the nominees are:

• The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Monster Hunter Wilds, the next installment in the long-running series by Capcom, was revealed in a trailer as the final world premiere. Wilds will come out in 2025. More information about the next Monster Hunter game will be the summer of 2024. 

The Finals, the arena gameshow-style shooter where the entire world is destructible, got a new trailer, with the game revealing it's releasing tonight. Like right now. Like, you can go play it now. 

A new trailer showcased the upcoming content for Final Fantasy XVI, made by the FFXIV team, dropped. Echoes of the Fallen is out now, shadow dropping with the trailer, while the next piece of content will be out next year.

Also, Alan Wake 2 has beat out its other nominees for Best Game Direction.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, has won best Action/Adventure Game at The Game Awards. 

No Man's Sky is getting more content next year, but Hello Games has been working on a new game the last five years in tandem. "More ambitious," according to Sean Murray.

The new game will be creating an Earth, something bigger than Earth even, with real mountains. 

"Not video game mountains."

A true open world with no real boundaries, according to Murray.

The trailer, if it's all real gameplay, looks absolutely incredible. Light No Fire.

Palia, the cozy MMO from Singularity 6, made an appearance to showcase it's Switch version. The PC version has been live since August, while Switch fans are eagerly awaiting news of release date, which we just got: December 14th.

Best Adaptation was warded by the cast of the upcoming Fallout show on Amazon Prime - which was won by HBO's The Last Of Us. It was, indeed, incredible.

Asgard's Wrath 2 was given a new trailer, debuted by Loki voice actor Matt Mercer. The VR game coming to Meta's Quest 3 headset, looks pretty great in motion, if the gameplay trailer here is anything to be believed. Coming on December 15th.

Tactical open-world extraction shooter, Exoborne: Masters of the Apocalypse, was revealed, with more news coming in 2024.

GTFO The Final Chapter made an appearance, and Ten Chambers, its developer took the stage to showcase the next game its working on: Den of Wolves, which is a co-op heist shooter from the creators of PAYDAY. 

Zenless Zone Zero made an appearance as well, with its new trailer. The next game from the Genshin developers is coming in 2024.

Last Sentinel, made by Lightspeed Studios, released its first look trailer that portrays a cyberpunk open world. The studio is made up of ex-Rockstar developers, and while the CG trailer looked incredible, no real details were given about gameplay and the like. Still, it's intriguing. Bring me more Cyberpunk-y worlds, please.

Also, Nexon's The first Descendant just made an appearance, showing off a new gameplay trailer and giving us a release window: Summer 2024.

The Best Ongoing Game, awarded by Captain America, was won by Cyberpunk 2077, beating out Final Fantasy XIV, among others. Interesting to see a single-player game beat out an MMO that is literally always ongoing is weird, but alright. It's a good game.

 

Skull & Bones just got a release date: February 16th, 2024. It's official. Is it actually going to happen? We'll see, but it was a surprise to see.

Also, Deathloop and Dishonored developer Arkane Lyon announced they're teaming up with Marvel Studios to make Blade, a third-person action-adventure set in Paris. A walled-in Paris, but Paris nonetheless. 

So the crossover no one had on their bingo card, Apex Legends and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth coming in January.

The First Berserker Khazan, a game that Geoff describes as a blend of 3D graphics and cartoon, was debuted, and it's pretty brutal. But it looks good.

Tales of Kenzera: Zau, a side-scrolling action game with some impeccable art, is coming next year. This looks pretty great, and I can't wait to learn more myself as we get closer to its August release date.

And the award for Games for Impact goes to Tchia, accepted by Sony's Shuhei Yoshida.

Warframe: Whispers in the Walls revealed its full trailer for the next expansion, as well as its release date: December 13th.

Black Myth: Wukong got an extended trailer with English and a release date - August 20th, 2024. This game continues to impress with its visuals, and now the extended gameplay trailer here showcases so much more of the epicness.

 

Best Audio Design, whose award was given out by Zedd, was won by sleeper hit by Bethesda and Tango Gameworks, HiFi Rush.

A new Jurassic Park game - Jurassic Park Survival is coming. It looks pretty good, coming to PC and current gen consoles.

Hideo Kojima unveiled its next title, made in partnership with Xbox Game Studios - OD. It uses Unreal Engine 5, as well as the new Meta Human technology.

Kojima is explaining that OD is both a game, a movie, and a new form of media. I still have no idea what this game is. But it has Jordan Peele apparently as part of the "Kojima-verse."

 

Rise of the Ronin is coming to PlayStation in 2024 from Koei Tecmo.

Awards were given out in another lightning round:

Best action Game: Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon

Best Art Direction: Alan Wake 2

Best VR/AR: Resident Evil VR

Best Mobile Game: Honkai Star Rail

The Casting of Frank Stone, a single player experience from two horror titans in gaming, Supermassive and the Dead by Daylight studio., was announced.

The next game revealed is a new game from Square Enix in the Mana universe. Visions of Mana is coming in 2024.

A line up of SEGA games coming - all brand new versions of older games it seems. Golden Axe, Jet Set radio, Crazy Taxi and more.

Dragonball Sparking Zero got a new trailer, showing off characters from the entire Dragonball franchise duking it out in good old DBZ fashion.

The award for Best Debut Indie Game was awarded to Cocoon. 

Ikumi Studios came on screen to show off their first game, Kemuri, before it even has a publisher to help bring it to life. I am digging the art style here, and interested in learning more.

Ori and the Blind Forest's developers debuted their next game, with some incredible music accompanying the isometric ARPG trailer - No Rest for the Wicked.

A beautiful new trailer dropped for Senua's Sacrifice: Hellblade 2, which comes out in 2024.

The next award, Best Narrative, was won by Alan Wake 2, beating out Baldur's Gate 3, which is surprising to me.

Big Walk, comes in 2025.

Also, new Steam Deck giveaway alert, TGASteamDeck.com - 100 decks to giveaway during the show.

New God of War revealed

Roguelike God of War Ragnarok Valhalla, coming next week as a free DLC.

I thought these weren't being called World Premieres anymore? 

Either way, Matthew McConaughey is opening the next premiere, with Austin's Archetype Entertainment, in a game that Matthew is a part of.

Here's Exodus.

Teal'C (Or Kratos, if you aren't up on cult sci-fi shows) is being played off the stage before he even has a chance to give the award. Complete with a Call of Duty joke - a good one too!

Best Performance goes to Neil Newborn for his role in Baldur's Gate 3 as the Vampire spawn Astarion.

A happy Geoff has taken the stage, announcing that the show is going to house an "astonishing line up" of world premieres. This is the 10th year of TGAs.

 

World of Goo 2 was revealed, a game 15 years in the making. Coming next year.

Also - The Persona studio pulled the veil back a bit more on its upcoming game, Metaphor ReFantazio, which releases in Fall 2024.

Surprise team up from two nominated games tonight: Dave the Diver, which we gave a preview of the Switch version last month, as well as Dredge.

 

Also, a VTuber has won the Content Creator of the Year: Ironmouse.

Arknights also had a trailer during the awards, acting more as a commercial than anything else. But the trailer points to a technical test coming soon - check out the trailer here.

Windblown, an upcoming hack and slash co-op game from the makers of Dead Cells was revealed, with early access coming in 2024 for PC. Frankly, I'm all in by just this one gameplay trailer alone.

Thrasher is coming from the Thumper team, which is also coming in 2024.

And Esports awards were given the lightning round here, which might replicate the lightning decline of esports as a whole.

The Odd Gentlemen developed its latest game with consultants from the hard of hearing and deaf communities. This latest game, Harmonium: the Musical looks pretty incredible - especially the full sign language used, even in the songs it seems.

Giving me Pixar vibes, to be frank.

The Best Innovation in Accessibility award was the next to be given away, with the award going to Forza Motorsport by Turn10 Studios.

 

The Hu's distinct throat singing kicks off the next reveal, Pony Island 2: Panda Circus, which looks trippy as...well. it looks like a fever dream.

Rise of the Golden Idol was revealed next, though literally no information was given about what kind of game it was. Hopefully, we'll learn more soon.

The final reveal in this round of reveals looks to be a hack and slash action adventure game with some magical elements and detective work - complete with an eye catching art and animation work - Usual June, which comes in 2025.

The first game reveal of the night is a remake of Brothers, which was made by the Game Awards GOTY winner Josef Fares.

Additionally, the first game award, Best Family Game, has been won by Super Mario Bros Wonder. Bowser has claimed the award for Nintendo.
