The month of December has come and gone, taking 2010 with it. Some say good riddance, some look back fondly, but no matter how you slice it, that puppy’s behind us and we’re all moving forward to 2011. For the team here at MMORPG.com, we’ve just got one tiny loose thread to tie up before we officially start the new year: We have to announce the winners of the 2010 MMORPG.com Reader’s Choice Awards!

This year, our categories were: Game of the Year, New Game of the Year, Most Innovative, Most Improved, Best F2P, Favorite Company, Biggest News Story, Most Anticipated, and the newest, and most dubious, addition to our prizes, Biggest Disappointment.

The rules were simple: For readers, look at the nominees and vote. One vote per person. We frown on cheating. For nominees: You may inform your community about your nomination, but may not otherwise unduly skew the voting by telling them who to vote for.

Most Anticipated Game

In order to qualify for this category, a game must be currently announced and carry a reasonable expectation that we will see a launch some time in 2011. The MMORPG.com staff deliberated at length and returned the following nominees: DC Universe Online, Guild Wars 2, Rift, Star Wars: The Old Republic and Tera.

The voting broke down as such:

Guild Wars 2 42.0%
Star Wars: The Old Republic 28.4%
Rift 16.2%
TERA 10.0%
DC Universe Online   3.3%

Winner: Guild Wars 2

The winner of this category shouldn’t come as a galloping shock to anyone who frequents MMORPG.com as Guild Wars 2 is currently ranked at #1 in our most anticipated charts, not only that but with a hype rating of 8.72, the game holds the highest sustained hype ever on our site.

Congratulations go out to the team at NCSoft and ArenaNet, but the Most Anticipated game award also comes with some pretty high expectations from MMO players everywhere. Hopefully, the developers of Guild Wars 2 are up for the challenge.
