The Asheron's Call Facebook page has been updated with the sad announcement that support for Asheron's Call and Asheron's Call 2 is ending effective January 31, 2017. Calling the games a "labor of love", the notice says that the decision was not an easy one to make.
In August, both Asheron's Call and Asheron's Call 2 will be going free to play according to an announcement on the official forums. As a result, the final subscription will be assessed at the end of June prior to the transition in August.
Turbine has announced that Asheron's Call will go into what is being called "maintenance mode" after the deployment of the February content patch. Producer Severlin took to the forums to make the announcement that the team will be working on bug fixes, possible balance issues and support for the game, but no longer will supply content on a regular basis.
The Asheron's Call team has updated the photos section of the official Facebook page with a trio of new screenshots from the game. The first features a stone building backed by a towering mountain. The second, a pair of monsters and the third the interior of what appears to be a temple of some sort.
Turbine and Asheron's Call developers have announced that the December update has been deployed. The latest game version includes a new playable race, the Olthoi. In addition, there is a new school of magic, a new hunting area, new quests and more. Players can update their games simply by logging in.
Andy "Frelorn" Cataldo of the Asheron's Call community team casually posted a tease yesterday of what appears to be a major graphical upgrade for the venerable MMO on the official Asheron's Call forums.
