VGM Fusion's Hands-On Preview of AC2 -

VGM Fusion has put up several screenshots and reviews/previews of Asheron's Call 2 Fallen Kings Beta. Definitely well worth the read if you are as excited as me about this next generation MMORPG!

"Name the most successful MMORPG’s off the top of your head. EverQuest, Dark Age of Camelot, Anarchy Online, Ultima Online and Asheron’s Call are some that spring to my mind. Microsoft and Turbine are looking to wipe away that list, and are doing everything they can to make sure Asheron’s Call 2 gets hammered into our collective conscious, and gets put into a league of its own. Judging by the beta which we’ve been playing for a few days, they certainly have a chance to make everyone forget about its competition.

Scheduled for release later this year, Asheron’s Call 2 will push MMORPG’s to new graphical heights -- one look at the system requirements will tell you that. The changes don’t end with the graphics either; in an effort to draw in the casual fan base, the gameplay has been tweaked considerably from the first installment, and depending on what side of the fence you’re on, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. But Turbine has gone on record saying they plan to make an RPG which will appeal to all, and hopefully have something for even the hardcore RPG’ers, (those of us who fall into that category will certainly appreciate that).

Gameplay boasts aside, the beta does prove beyond a shadow of a doubt which MMORPG will be the graphical Titan of the genre. The visuals are so stunning, that you will find yourself staring into the sky, or at the ground in pure amazement quite often during your game time. To say the game is a feast for the eyes is a monumental understatement. From the individually drawn blades of grass, to hyper-realistic water and shore effects, all the way up to the beautifully animated sky, the game manages to bring a sense of realism never seen before.

This realism does come at a price though. If you plan to enjoy the game as we have, you’ll definitely have to start saving now – not for the game itself, but for the hardware upgrades you’re sure to need. A 1.2 GHz Athlon Thunderbird, with 512 Megs of Ram, and a GeForce 4Ti 4200, are barely enough to punch this game into visual glory. Those of you who NEED and crave those spectacular graphics will need to start looking at a 2 GHz processor, a GIG of Ram, and the ATi Radeon 9700 (which isn’t supported as of now). For those of you not in the ubber-system category, you can rest easy knowing that even on its lowest settings, the game still trounces anything you’ve seen before.

All of this information is really filler for what VGM Fusion has in store for you happy go lucky fans. We’ve been given access to the Beta, and we intent to blow the roof off it. For the next 10 Days, come to VGM Fusion to see daily journals of Quass, and Zing79’s experiences in the game. You’ll be able to live the game through all the screen shots, notes, stories, and events the two of us come across. And to prepare you for this event, take a look at the screen shots from the very beginning of the game.

Buckle up people, we’re about to take you on a tour of Asheron’s Call 2"
