Trion Worlds has announced the commencement of the first closed beta event for ArcheAge. The CBT will run from today through Monday, July 21st. In addition to the news of the closed beta start, Trion also announced that over a million players have signed up for the opportunity to test out the highly-anticipated title.

How long should MMOs last? It’s a question that splits communities and confuses publishers. Some enthusiasts believe an MMO should persist in perpetuum, continuously getting updates, never ending. Others think they should be able to complete the content of a new MMO within a few months, maybe even weeks, of it launching. The recent implementation of Patch 1.2 on Trion World’s ArcheAge alpha servers brought this topic to the forefront of discussion among fans of the game.

By now you’ve read our news article about the closed beta for ArcheAge launching next week on July 17th for four days. Fear not! It’s just the first of several upcoming closed beta events before the game goes live later this year. To clarify this information and much more, we chatted with Trion Worlds’ CEO Scott Hartsman earlier today.

Trion Worlds has announced that the beta for long-awaited ArcheAge is set to kick off on Thursday, July 17th at 10:00 PDT / 1:00 EDT. Beta is expected to run throughout the weekend and end on Monday, July 21st at 10:00 PDT / 1:00 EDT.

Trion Worlds has announced that the Closed beta for long-awaited ArcheAge is set to kick off on Thursday, July 17th at 10:00 PDT / 1:00 EDT. Beta is expected to run throughout the weekend and end on Monday, July 21st at 10:00 PDT / 1:00 EDT. ArcheAge has been in closed beta testing for the last few months as the team has been hard at work on localization efforts. According to the press release, the open beta will be in English only, though other language localizations are underway.

A few days ago Trion Worlds announced that ArcheAge’s beta events would be delayed by a couple weeks in order to incorporate Patch 1.2, a collection of content, balance and feature tweaks. What does this update change and why is it so important to ArcheAge’s success in Trion’s territories? For answers to those questions, rewind the ArcheAge timeline one year.

The latest ArcheAge update has been posted on the Trion site. In it, Evan 'Scapes' Berman reveals that what has been known as patch v1.2 in Korea is being renamed "build 4.1" to differentiate it for the North American version of the game. Berman further writes that the patch is being prepped for deployment to the alpha servers soon. Lastly, Berman announced that a new alpha server is being added.

Trion Worlds is showing off its zero tolerance policy with regard to spammers and botters in ArcheAge. According to a new post by community manager Evan "Scapes" Berman, over sixteen thousand spammers and botters have been given the boot and more are promised soon.

The ArcheAge site has been update with news that many fans of the forthcoming title have been wanting to hear more about. The post details the benefits to becoming a Patron of ArcheAge and indicates that this incarnation is based on Rift's "No Tricks, No Traps" philosophy of free-to-play gaming. Lastly, free players will have a robust game in which to play that does not require any cash output in order to have fun, though some features, including the auction house, are somewhat limited.

ArcheAge is most definitely a sandbox-flavored MMO. The seas and roads are alive with trade caravans transporting packs of local specialties. Guilds have claimed land, hastily constructed castles and declared war on one another. Most importantly, crafted gear reigns supreme. For some MMO fans, none of that matters. No amount of open-world interactions can prevent ArcheAge from becoming the target of "Korean grinder" criticism.

The ArcheAge forums for the NA version of the game have been updated with the (good) news that the game will launch with the v1.2 version of the game. The 1.0 version met with a lot of player resistance when it launched in Korea earlier this year. Since that time, many improvements and "fixes" have been put in place to improve the overall game experience.
