Apex Legends Devs Have Booted Over 16,000 Players for Cheating

The Apex Legends Reddit has a beefy update from the development team that, among other things, informs the community that over 16,000 players have been identified and banned for cheating. Considering the game's infancy, this is a big deal and showcases the commitment of the team to ensuring the game stays cheat-free. The letter also deals with the frustration many have felt with game crashes. To address this, devs have a plan to "improve stability, performance and QoL".

The letter also contains information about what happens when a player reports bugs, issues, exploits, etc. "As you can imagine, when you drop your game out of nowhere and 25 million people show up in the first week, there's going to be all kinds of issues, bugs, exploits, etc. discovered". The QA team takes bugs, for instance, and tries to replicate the issue. The more information provided by the player, the better able they are to do so and to squash the bug.

  • What platform are you playing on?
  • Origin ID / Gamertag / PSN
  • What were you doing leading up to the issue?
  • Can you reproduce it? What are the steps?
  • PC players - provide hardware specs, OS version and GPU driver version.
  • If possible, it’s great if you can capture a screenshot / picture or video.
  • Pay attention for dev updates.

Lastly, the team is committed to providing transparency about what it is working on and will be "doing more regular updates like this moving forward", probably on Tuesdays each week. There are also plans in motion for livestreams, an ongoing list of troubleshooting tips on the AL Reddit and "a couple more things in the works that we'll talk about more in the future".
