EA Confirms 'Early 2019' Release, Claims It's Not a Delay, Also Posts Nearly $200M Loss in Q3 2017 -

Earlier today, EA told the Wall Street Journal that BioWare's Anthem will be coming out in early 2019. EA's Blake Jorgensen told the WSJ, "It's not a delay. People are trying to create a story." However, from the start, BioWare and EA said that Anthem would be released in fall 2018. If that's not a delay, we don't know what is.

Sarah E. Needleman, author of the piece in the WSJ sent out this Tweet earlier today: "Electronic Arts says it is now planning to release Anthem, an online multiplayer action game from its BioWare studio, in early 2019 instead of fall 2018 as originally planned. The company denies a report in videogame site Kotaku earlier this month claiming the change is due to development being behind schedule. Instead, EA is planning to release a new Battlefield game in October and it determined that Anthem, the new intellectual property, would get more attention if it came out in a quieter quarter."

In addition, EA also revealed a nearly $200M Q3 loss during the period that ended on December 31, 2017.  From

In the quarter ended December 31, 2017, EA earned $1.16 billion in revenue, essentially flat year-on-year. Packaged Goods revenue declined 18 per cent to $380 million, but that was balanced by a 14 per cent rise in Digital revenue, which reached $780 million for the quarter.

In Q3, EA's digital revenue accounted for 67 per cent of the publisher's entire earnings.

However, EA still made a loss of $186 million, versus a loss of $1 million in Q3 last year.
