Each week, we scour the internet for all things indie MMO-related, so you don’t have to. This week, Embers Adrift temporarily goes free-to-play, Nightingale sees additional layoffs, and Ethyrial: Echoes of Yore has a new roadmap. Plenty of other stuff is also going on, so let’s quit wasting time and get started with this week’s Indie MMO Spotlight.
Broken Ranks
The Forefather’s Eve event is underway and runs through November 4th.
City of Heroes Homecoming
The shard experience bonuses on Torchbearer, Indomitable, and Reunion will end with next week’s maintenance. The Halloween event will end as well.
Corepunk
A new dev update posted on October 29th states that the team is now a month and a half behind schedule due to the number of tasks to complete, but Early Access will still roll out on November 26th as planned. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather see the Early Access delayed than launch it half-baked; you only get one first impression.
Dragon and Home
The Spooky Halloween event is now live and runs through November 11th.
Elethor
A long Discord post outlines many of the changes coming with the next patch, codename NEO. The patch will include a major overhaul of the combat and stat system.
Embers Adrift
A press release on Tuesday outlined issues Embers Adrift is having with its online payment partner, Digital River. The team has terminated its partnership with Digital River and plans to migrate Embers Adrift to Steam. All active subscriptions have been canceled, and the MMO will temporarily be free to play while they work on the migration. For those who enjoy the game and wish to help cover operational costs, a donation page has been set up.
Ethyrial: Echoes of Yore
Patch 3.3.2 was deployed this week, adding free movement to the MMO. A livestream this week outlined the future goals the developer has for Ethyrial. Along with core improvements, the roadmap lists several new dungeons, the addition of Relics, and some endgame updates.
Loftia
With Alpha Access planned to roll out by year’s end, the Loftia Pre-Order Store will be shutting down on November 4th. Alpha Access includes a key for Alpha Access and Steam Early Access (expected to launch in late 2025) and an invite to a private Alpha Discord Group. Alpha Access will be available on PC and Mac through direct download and Steam.
Nightingale
In the wake of Inflexion’s UK studio closure, additional staff has been laid off from its Canadian HQ.
Once Human
The new event, Trail of the Icy Mysteries, runs through November 7th. Each day of the event, an image of a specific scene from the Way of Winter map will be posted, and you can earn rewards by submitting a screenshot that includes your character at the location. A new Events Calendar was posted highlighting the remaining events for November.
Prosperous Universe
In Development Log #457, Michi discusses his latest work on the gateway feature: unlinking gateways and link notifications.
Villagers & Heroes
Patch 5.34, The Crux Part One, was pushed to the live servers on Monday. The Crux is a new area available to any level 95 character that has completed marshland Reclamation.
