It’s time to re-gather those sandbox-digging friends for a new adventure, as the “mystical multiplayer sandbox adventure” Kyora has been unveiled. Announced during The Game Awards preshow, Kyora comes from Pugstorm and Chucklefish, the team behind another successful sandbox mining game, Core Keeper.
In Kyora’s procedurally-generated world, players can join in groups of up to eight to journey down into the earth, or apparently up into the sky per its description, to search for rare materials. Players get to not only craft armor and weapons (as well as food!), but also terraform the world around them pixel by pixel to dig or build as they see fit.
Players also get a variety of crafting options to help them survive as they wander further into the land, from better armor for different conditions to “physics-altering wands.” And in the heart of each terrain, players will also be able to take on the final bosses, called “Heralds.”
While Core Keeper was already a standout sandbox mining game, Kyora harks back more to other classic multiplayer pixel crawlers such as Terraria in appearance and what appears to be gameplay. It’s a lot more up-and-down vertical this time, as opposed to exploring the open flat world.
There’s currently no release date on Kyora, as the Steam page reads “coming soon.”
