In a new post on the Albion Online site, developers discuss one of the game forum's hottest topics, "Hardcore vs Casual".

The post begins with the fact that the majority of players will spend their time in the safe zone, collecting materials that then lead to "graduation" into PvP. The team learned this in observations in EVE Online. Simultaneous to this end goal is keeping the safe zones fun and interesting and giving players choosing to stay there a fulfilling experience.  Players in safe zones are crucial to the in-game economy to create supply and demand chains for all players.

Safe zone players generally build up a surprlus and assets which they can burn off in PvP zones if they like. That is a desirable course of action for them – as best rewards are reserved for red and black zones. There is also a heap of exciting features that are exclusive to PvP zones, like territory ownership, GvG fights, enchanting temples and more. With the smooth transition between safe zone and PvP in the yellow zones, as well as the PvP flagging system to prevent mindless „kill on sight“, we allow players to „ease in“ to the PvP setting.
