RUMOR: Legion Coming June 30th? EU Retailers Think So

Several retail gaming sites in the EU are reporting that World of Warcraft's Legion expansion will be ready for action on June 30, 2016. Sites in Poland, the Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates are reporting this date. While this seems a bit overly enthusiastic, it is close to the release of the Warcraft movie and the beginning of summer, the last day of which marks the outside date for the release of Legion according to Blizzard itself.

With the release of the Warcraft movie in the EU in May, it is possible that many nostalgic former players and hyped-from-the-movie newbs would purchase a battle chest with its free month that, not coincidentally, would run out around June 30th. At this time Blizzard could conceivably announce that pre-patch setting the stage for Legion and that would re-hype people to sub to play it, purchase Legion and pony up another couple of months to boot. This hypothetical scenario does have the scent of the Blizzard PR handbook, doesn't it?

World of Warcraft: Legion is currently in alpha testing with no announcement about beta yet in sight. Ordinarily, Blizzard has run about four months of beta so it is unlikely that this date is credible. Still, for fans, it's nice to dream.

Thanks to our own weekend news sleuth, Catherine Daro, for scoring this find from the Russian WoW forums!
