Videos Videos - Shadowgate - First Half Hour of Gameplay

A Remake of the 25 year old classic, Shadowgate is an epic old school RPG based on puzzle solving more than dice rolls. Thrust into the role of "The Seed of Prophecy," players travel deep into the living castle, in hopes of defeating the evil that dwells within – the dreaded Warlock Lord.

Having missed the first game, I was not sure what to expect.  I was surprised, in a good way :)

7 deaths in about 20 minutes (after the first 9 minutes of intro and tutorial) is not too bad :)

It looks like an interesting game.  I commend you on your "Save Game" strategy :)

That's how those games were though! They weren't looking to reinvent the game with modern designs. I think they were just looking to recreate their game with the same concept only more true to what they actually envisioned with the capabilities of modern technology.

This is definitely a remake meant for nostalgia, not for bringing in new fans. Though I'm sure some younger gamers will appreciate it too.

I love how the music is done, really tremendously great, it is such a great subtle remix of the original, can't stress enough how well that have captured that in particular!

Otherwise it's a shame, but this kind of game just I don't believe will hold up well with a new generation as they will just wiki to figure out everything.

Thing is we didn't have wiki or even internet back with the original and HAD TO figure out how to get through the labyrinth and what a great sense of accomplishment it was.

I'm still in awe at the fine remastering of this music, perfectly done, man it takes me back...

I've never liked puzzle games much. I hate how they create sense of helplessness. The first time he dies is from picking up a book. There's no chance of evade, resist, reaction. You just auto die for making a choice which creates an atmosphere of trial and error with endless saving game.

I can just imagine the replay value considering the above requirements to progress.

Considering the reactions here I must be in the minority, but I have no wish for the gaming industry to regress 25 years.  Polishing ancient titles because they haven't the ability or desire to create something new.  If you are that desperate for ancient games buy the original for about 99p and install an emulator so that your modern PC can run it, instead of rewarding lazy development and paying premium prices for it.
