I think its total BS. Okay not really.
I totally support someones right to protect their IP, be it an individual or a company.
But I have yet to see an example of a corp a compeditor making money off of someone elses IP.
So basically I see this as a set-up to seek monentary damages if someone (an individual) starts making money steaming or covering their IP.
Now it may sound like Im contradicting myself. A stream or live feed will only earn revenue for the host if people find it intresting, most likely a combination of the game and the hosts commentary. Which is free advertising for the company that owns the IP.
A good example is DayZ. How many sales do you thinK Bohemia got because people were posting and streaming gameplay. (retorical question)
Well it was a lot. Its why Arma2 and Operation Arrowhead bundled pack were the #1 seller on Steam 2 years after release, for about 2 months straight.
So a company benefits, I bet, by a factor of 10 (or more) than any individual can ever earn from advertising revenue from streaming or posting frapsed videos.
I have never heard of SOE or EA or CCP and so on using someone elses IP to earn themselves money. Its already protected under current anti-compeditive use laws.
This was strictly to go after the average-joe steamer/YouTube uploader.
And whats so irksome is they want, and even encourage, you to stream and upload, because its the best advertising they can have, its free to them and its already hitting their target audience, but they in turn dont want you to make any "real" money while youre making them money.
Bunch of hypocrites, if I may say so..
I dont think hair dyes are near as caustic and damaging as they used to be.
But if at 35 and shes lost all her hair, you should give the 10k to her.
Or better yet, me. Ive already lost 1/2 my hair and Ive never even dyed it once.
"Upload their content" - its not their content.
Just dont make money. Your doing it for the love of the game after all right?
I never understood why anyone would watch a stream
Hopefully there are some more quality MMO releases to talk about in the future... been looking forward to the 'next great game' for me and it hasn't come along yet
