In this week's episode of MMOFTW, we cover the launch of The Secret World, SWTOR's 1.3 Patch, the release date for Guild Wars 2 and more! Check it out!
I prefer mmoreport far above the other show simply because it includes more content. I wouldn't mind even another few minutes of more in-depth reporting.
I think Bill just touched something really interesting. Raiding is the only form of endgame for themeparks, but it seems that large persistant pvp is the kid around, when in reality, both are just reused concepts from years ago.

It's okay, I have you guys to tell me that EVERY week. I can't help the cheese, honestly. Just imagine what I'll be like at age sixty.
Mon Jul 02 2012 12:40PMReport
Well Done Bill. MMOFTW keeps getting better. Agree 100% about your view on raids. I think Dynamic events on a Epic scale are the way to go. Rather then a dragon standing around waiting for 32 peeps to zerg it. There has to be a way. Secret World for exaple you could get a call on your cell phone from your factions leader saying Kingsmouth is being attacked etc etc form up type of thing. Just an idea though.
BillMurphy writes:
@Praetorian - I WISH that did happen in TSW. The one thing the game is missing for me is some sort of dynamic event like that. After Rift and GW2 (talking beta events), I'm spoiled by that sort of public event that draws players together.
Mon Jul 02 2012 1:30PMReport
Casey acts like a prick more than ever these days and his entire show focuses on a childish nutsac joke at the end segment. Speed reads through all the MMO news just to get to it.
So I don't think you have anything to worry about.
Just a suggestion for your show Bill would be to talk more casually. You sound a little stiff. The humor you add definitely gives the show a more welcoming feel and I think if you could change up the slightly monotone voice it would do wonders.
But overall great job, I look forward to these every week :)
p.s. you dont want to sound like casey anyway, he's a tool
Was raiding ever really "alive?" There's a reason WoW kept shrinking raid size requirements. It's not only an antiquated concept, it's a niche concept. Most in vanilla WoW never saw MC. And the main inspiration is gear not fun. It's more like a second job than entertainment. Honestly, not sure if simply making it more dynamic will solve the problem.
I am already starting to look forward to these MMOFTW updates. Thanks for the effort going into them.
I have been playing TSW closed beta for months now and I have found that the team instance in each playfield will not be enough to keep me intrested long. It seems to me raiding is what the game needs, but the genra is not my favorate anyway so not sure if it would keep me playing reguardless
Matrix Online had the answer to raiding etc, actual GM generated content on the fly, no coding behind it making it boring and repetetive simply imagination and the best suite of GM tools I have ever seen.

Raiding sadly around eq rok became a gear grind and pretty much what was considered endgame.
Daoc came out and I think it's the best end game I ever had.
Massive three side pvp, little consequences ie no exp loss and no body looting, sieges, castles and something to fight over in relics.fun for all too.
Tue Jul 03 2012 5:49AMReport
Another good cast there Bill. however funcom with lego's I am still shaking my head going what they heck just happened.
1.3 for swtor might have brought the group finder but its not going to fix the problems that game has. It will be interesting to see what happens now that TSW has launched and what kind of impact if any it will have on swtor.
GAHHH DON'T remind me of the thrice cursed Morse puzzle! >.<
Or the Gravity quest! :O Who do they think I am, Sherlock Holmes?
Hm. Raiding. Never was a huge fan of it, mostly because raiding mechanics involve console-ish timed reaction stuff. I am just awful at that. Do this NOW, do that HERE, jump there NOW... phew. I never can do that right. I prefer just beating a boss with my character's muscle, end of story.
I agree that Rift and GW2 spoilt me too with dynamic content. Since Rift and GW2 I miss that in other MMOs, namely TSW.
Ok, no time, gotta bring chaos of the Dragon to the Blue Mountains...
I think raiding is dead only because of the gear grind. I am sick of being forced to X raid 100 times before I am geared well enough to go do the next raid and then having to do the next raid again 100 times before I have the gear to do the next raid. I would rather they remove the gear requirements and let me just go play with my friends no matter what tier they are doing as long as I have the skill. I paided for the game and I am sick of being locked out of content because I dont have time to spend hundreds of hours raiding each tier. Gear grind is 90% of the problem.
Raiding may be a tired concept along with major PvP for endgame. But I want to see someone come up with something better. I'm not saying that to be an ass either. I have thought long and hard about what to do for "end game". The problem is with EVERYTHING someone comes up with there will be "yea and when you are done with that?" You have to concider whats reasonable within making content to. Endgame happens long before an expansion can come out. So what is endgame between now and then?
I don't know why I watch this blantant copy of "The MMO-Report" nor do I think that MMORPG will ever bee a great source for news, so hats off to those who like it.
For Bill, I figured I would comment on this because well, for someone who has so many opinions, I would think that you would have come up with this great idea for issue of "End gaming" but alas, you just put out there that it's dead and you don't like the current model instead of giving some sort of relevant and constructive ideas.
I really think those of you who have no idea what your looking for, should really stop complaining that you haven't found it yet...
Good stuff Bill.

We really need a type of mmorpg :(
Mon Jul 02 2012 10:37AM Report"Raiding is dead."
So, typical to the player base, the answer is...
"It just needs to be done differently." (Paraphrased)
I've waited years for players to pull their heads out of their arses. Seems never to be.
Mon Jul 02 2012 11:07AM Reporti remember when Videos here had 6-12k views. Nowdays its around 2-3k. I guess mmorpg is dying too.
Mon Jul 02 2012 11:31AM ReportGreat cast ~
Mon Jul 02 2012 12:23PM ReportSome one needs to tell this lad he's not funny.

Mon Jul 02 2012 4:15PM ReportGreat vid, Bill. Don't let the nay-sayers who say nay get you down!!
This is a great addition to MMORPG.com. One of the best new things I think you guys/gals have implemented in a long time.
It's great to put a face with the names, and you seem to have the right kind of personality for it.
So... Keep it up, good sir!

Tue Jul 03 2012 7:09AM Reporti love this mini show he puts on, its great if your not exactly paying attention to the mmo media at the time.

"...I have this uncle who works at Area net and he also says that GW2 coming out on Aug. 28th."
Ummm...I am the uncle and, I never told Bill Murphy this.
Tue Jul 03 2012 12:23PM ReportI ENJOYED IT. KEEP UP THE GOOD WURK GUILLAME!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tue Jul 03 2012 2:51PM ReportGet rid of instancing and bring back open group dungeons. 5 players in a dungeon needs to be thrown out.
Tue Jul 03 2012 4:35PM ReportI would have appreciated more detail. The little editorial at the end was nice, but again, need more details.
Tue Jul 03 2012 6:19PM ReportOk, video, another video but i prefear old schoool: please, write an article, because i'm interested in your pinion about raiding daed.
But i've no time in order to watch your video.
Old school FTW: text and images :)
Wed Jul 04 2012 7:44AM ReportAwesome Video Bill, Also I personally think Raiding has died out, taken a defibulator, and is now taking its last few breaths again.
Wed Jul 04 2012 4:20PM ReportIs it me, or are there WAAAAAAY too many new MMOs comming out.
I personally would like to see more good quality puzzle games.
But I'm probably just getting old.
Wed Jul 04 2012 9:16PM Report1. He is sailing.
2. He is wearing the same undershirt in the intro and under the coat.

Thu Jul 05 2012 12:36AM ReportThanks Bill Murray...er...Murphy
Thu Jul 05 2012 8:12AM ReportLove MMOFTW and wouldn't mind if it lasted up to 10 minutes.
I love the cheese ;)
Thu Jul 05 2012 10:43AM Reportwonder how long this game will last without a solid end content. Probably just as long as TERA (that game is dying quick).
Thu Jul 05 2012 8:09PM ReportI was a hib for 6 years, never defecting to the other realms. LONG LIVE HIBERNIA!!!!!!!!!!!
Fri Jul 06 2012 4:19PM ReportNice, my sub for DAoC runs out 8-23, perfect.
