Looks just like some older games.  2 years yet? Umm ...ok.  Here is a clip from their website about 2 factions.  Sounds like It is just like Warhammer Online with Order Vs Destruction. Oh well... will keep it on radar...but not very excited.  "Side with the forces of Order, or the vile hosts of Destruction, in a war that will unlock ancient secrets, reveal dark purposes, and determine the fate of the Sargos Sector. For in this dark millennium, there is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter."

What about FACTIONS?!!? That is the single most important question regarding this game right now, hypewise. I mean they can blabber all they want but this is the make-or-break issue for so many fans right now, that they should really set the matter straight. I'm purposefully ignoring the game right now because I don't want to get my expectations high over a game that I know I won't enjoy no matter how many "oh gosh" vehicles or whateverz they stick in there. For the majority of you whining over factions, I really don't understand what the issue is.  Not only would it take MASSIVE effort to find a way to balance anything over two factions not because of race or technology but because there would always be a terrible inbalance in what people would roll character wise.  Read lore, and take into account that Chaos could some how manipulate the other races to fight for them.  If you've ever played the Dawn of War series of games there's shining examples of just how these factions interact with each other and "help" one another.  For instance, Imperial Guardsman teaming up with Eldar, only to be betrayed at the moment they need them.  Eldar left them fighting the orks, allowing the entire group to die while furthering their own goals.  I think it's going to be a fun game, regardless of the choice of only having two factions.  If simply having a 40k MMO isn't enough for you 'die-hard fans', then I'd suggest moving on or trying to gain the rights to create your very own game where you can stay true to every single detail.  Let's see how that'd turn out.

2 Factions = Smart.. Go Play Planetside. There multi faction stuff was a joke. One group per server ALWAYS lacked hardcore anyways. By having two factions its safer. Why have a full like 5/6 Sides to play on? They would have to keep everything on 2 maybe 3 servers which would  cause Massive stress to deal with enough people per each Faction. And Its obvious some factions (Eldar/Chaos) will have FAR more players then others. 2 Factions = SMART.

It's their first announcement of the game, they should have every feature they're planning to do and even those they haven't thought of yet... and their expansions they're planning on doing... and the number of subs in 5 years' time. THAT's the kind of info I want!

@Costa88: Faction imbalance is precisely why having two factions is terrible. With two factions, when one is outnumbered, it's simply screwed. With an odd number of factions, such as three, the conflict always balances out as the outnumbered two ignore each other to focus on the larger faction. Pretty basic and well-established video game principle: three factions even themselves out.

I laugh at you. Warhammer is not a rip off of WoW. As a matter of fact its the other war around. Blizzard was creating Warhammer at the same time as they were in talks to get the licensing. The talks didnt go well for whatever reason so Blizzard had to change the name to Warcraft and start changing story, game, content before they released the first Warcraft. This is why there is so many similarities.

Games Workshop should stick to minatures and PnPRPGs, since the MMO genre is oversatured with terrbile, cookie-cutter games. Trying to create an iconic IP into an MMO is probably the worse idea that a company can hatch. Case in point; Warhammer, Star Trek Online, Conan, Dungeons & Dragons. These titles fail for one main reason; you can not recreate the fan expeirence into an MMO.

The MMO genre is taking its last breath. The games take too much time and energy, and after a certain point reduces itself to repetition. As a fan of GW products, I rue the day when this MMO is on the shelves, as I believe it waters down the IP even further. Didn't they learn their lesson with "Failhammer"? I guess not.

1) The Khorne Berserker (Chaos Space Marine ) should have said "Blood for the Blood God!".

2) Space Marine don't have "rooms" and don't sleep.

3) Drop the Order vs. Destruction. If you don't want IG and Sisters of battle fighting SM, don't include the IG and SoB. Every army should be fighting every other Army. Just do SM, CSM and Orks if that's what you can handle. Or add Eldar and make a 4th faction.

Maybe I've been too close to this IP having been a GW team member but this just doesn't represent the 40K universe well (as far as #3. 1 and 2 were just for Madeiria)

They could make a 2 faction system work if they had multiple races with-in each faction and the ability for races to individually change sides.

For Example, Have 2 factions with 3 "races" each. Each race would have its own starting area and low level PvE zone. Higher level PvE zones would be interlinked based on the races current alleigance (Destruction or Order)

PvP would be an RvR type affair (See DAoC - Frontiers) with races fighting out there for control of resources.

If one side was out numbering the others the Devs could (by using a races ruling NPC (King Warlord etc)  Swap a races alignment to balance the sides. Ie you'd now have a 4 races Vs 2 Races situation. This would be explained in game via announcements to each side ("The Eldar have shown thier true colours and fled to Destructions side" .... "The Loyal Eldar have returned to the fold" etc)

Races could switch sides even on balanced servers with two races switching sides at the same time. This would provide a unique dynamic within the game as former friends now became enemies etc.

Of course your "core" races would never switch (SM on order and CSM on destruction) but the other races could switch as required to maintain balance or just to switch up the sides.

Some players may get upset when thier side "switches" but its a historical fact that armys switch sides in War and you sux it up.

These models in Pre-Alpha easily have three times as many polygons as WoW Models, and at least double the resolution on the skins.  And again, that's in pre-alpha

As an avid Warhammer 40k Fan, I'm excited to see such passion and devotion from Vigil Studios.  They're doing a great job and I'm sure this game will be great.

Concerning the comment that it's "too colorful"  Go to Games Workshop website and look at the models and try saying it doesn't match.   Yes it's a grim and gritty future, but that doesn't mean it's devoid of color.  It's not gears of war where everything is just various shades of grey and brown.

I'd like to point that the Catalepsean Node function does not replace sleep entirely and it's used mainly when on watch and/or on a mission. When marines aren't on duty (i.e.: stationed on a fortress monastery) they actually sleep for 4 hours a day. (source: the Lexicanum)

Two factions + one world = big disappointment from a WH40k fan who's played since 1990. Considering what year it is and how far we've come in the MMORPG industry, we should be seeing big steps forward. Not these half-assed steps backwards.

The game should have launched with 3 worlds in the star system to fight over. Five factions. Space Marines, Chaos, Eldar, Orks, and Tyranids. The first four factions would have character advancement in terms of gear, skills, abilities, etc as normal. Tyranids could have advancement with additional biomass or genetic augmentations / held bio weaponry. If that would be too tricky to work in, classic Genestealer 1st through 4th generation hybrid choices could have been selected for initial launch.

Add in an expansion with Dark Eldar and Imperial Guard, and another expansion with Tau and Necrons, and they could have had a money printing machine. Yes, the start up costs would have been crazy, but would it have captured the attention of fans, programmers, and about *anyone* involved in the industry?

I dont see starting with two factions as a bad thing... first of all it allows plenty of room for expansion down the road.  I can also see some of the factions added as PVE content... the tyrinids for example or the genestealers would be great PVE factions, and then perhaps later add the Eldar as a third faction... I remember in the old days when the space dwarves were a faction too they were awesome!

Anyway an MMO is an immensly complicated endeavor and starting with two factions makes sense from a logistical angle.

Enough about the wonderful production value. Well if you play the game there are really only two true factions... one fighting for good, and the other fighting for chaos, but the cool think about all of the flavor and actual play of the game is that anyone will end up fighting anyone. I thnk the "wait and see" is best right now for this game.

I do feel that it will be a unique view of a squad based table top game. I think the stories will be more from the Inquisitor game which was more like a role playing game with a single charator that you build up in its play verse Warhammer 40k which is just about building your army and you don't track the life of your squads.

Also one if the unique ideas of playing the table top game is sportmanship, Depending on the club you play with, you might have to changes sides with your oppenent to see what you might have done different. ... Think there is any chance of that in a mmorgp... ha ha ha, it will be how do I become the uberist most rule bending charator on the server.

The main website has very little int he ways of information ont he game but int he game info it mentions joining the sides of order or destruction which pretty much says a two faction system. I really hope that doesn't end up coming back to bite them. We will see.

I would be so in to this game as long as you have more than 2 factions.

2 factions is well outdone in other MMOs, multiple factions is proven to work in several old games like EvE but some reason devs seem caught in this 2 sided approach.

Lets get this out of the way now.

Anybody going off of the "leaked information" from mmofocus.se can toss it aside right now as everything that has been said pretty much debunks it as false.

They never said there would be only 1 world.   They've mentioned several times it will take place in a quadrant of space which will probably contain several worlds which will most likely be themed.  They also confirmed there will be vehicles as they're important.

They never said it would be SM + IG vs Chaos + Orkz.  It would appear the Eldar will be making an appearance as well out of the gate, though they weren't shown in the video.  (they guy with the pointy hood and respirator was NOT an Eldar as some are assuming)

Now as for factions, I will be disappointed if there's only 2, but its not a deal breaker for me.  Who knows? Maybe they'll get it to work out.  Don't condemn the game before it's even out.

Yes there are factions of Order and Factions of Destruction but that doesn't mean they're all going to work together hand in hand.  And even if they do at launch, circumstances do change. Maybe after an expansion, faction loyalties will change.  Big whoop.    I'd rather have fewer, populated factions then a bunch of spread thin factions with the exception of Space Marines which will always have a huge fanbase.

There's not nearly enough information on the game to try and Condemn it.   Anyone doomsaying at this point are just sad.

Do not make this one a shitty average themepark clone.

All these people moaning about it not being "dark" enough, and that one comment about the pastel colours was really something. Are you shitting me? Have you ever seen the Imperial Fists? If you hadn't noticed, it's the setting that's dark, not the physical environments. Sure you might fight on a world underneath a warpstorm in which case it would be actually dark, and most probably you wouldn't notice because it was a goddamn warpstorm and all manner of warp beasts would be coming at you and people would be exploding, but the majority of the worlds are - and this is true - orbiting. "Around what?" You ask. Around a star. Which provides light.

First, 2 factions is multiple factions, second, warhammer is all about 1vs1 battles.

Yeah 1 v 1... on a scale of army versus army (in the lore, sometimes these armies number literally billions of soldiers). Plus, it's not always 1 v 1, but that's the way they do it in tournaments to keep it fair on the tabletop. As we've seen with WoW, and especially with WAR, 2-faction PvP does not work because it always ends up being lop-sided in some respect, throwing the whole idea of balance out of the window entirely.

Wow i am very suprised of how some people geting rush to take conclusion about the game with only a video and a few words from the developers. Just sfu and don't spread rumors around here, wait to see more details and then start whining as usual. They will NOT add 2 races only, this is a promo video for god sake!!!
