TW has an amazing imagination and has the gift to put this imagination into words.
My favorite author, by far, and I've been waiting for this MMORPG to come about for years.
I'm such a fan that all of my current gaming characters all have alternate spellings of his book characters.
Tad...you are amazing. Thanks for sharing your talent with me and allowing me to leave real life for a time while I visit your worlds.

The books were awesome and sounds like a great partnership and even a greater promise. Will be nice to see something new on the market. Can't wait to hear more.

Tad, I haven't read your books and after hearing you in this interview I really would like to. I write but no one has seen any of my stuff as connections are useful. I do look forward to follow on this game though sounds very intriguing.

I still have the email Tad personally answered in 1998. He takes his fans and commitment to them very seriously which is why I was so excited to see him involved in this project. I do not think it will disappoint.

I remember the head aches I got from reading his books. They are so vivid and graphic. The worlds he paints are amazing! The Dynamics are so involved I am very interested in seeing how this is going to be pulled off.

Very excited about Otherland becoming an MMO; it's one of the top 10 settings that I can think of.
The last response was the most interesting to me. I hope they choose a setting that's after the events in the series. Trying to recreate the actual plot might be devastating.
The sheer virtual space that Otherland hints at is amazing - and hopefully not overwhelming.
There are so many unique things that this MMO could bring to the genre - from player housing/player worlds, to crafting/manipulating the code, to PvP and faction wars.
My best wishes and Good Luck!

I've been interested in the works of Tad Williams since "Tailchasers Song". His "Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn" series (i.e. "The Dragonbone Chair", etc.) is very good and worth a read for fans of fantasy fiction with realistic characterizations. His otherland series is a very vivid (and dense) read about esentially a cyberpunk style view of a virtual and visual "internet" of the future. As such, it opens up a vast environment for a game world to play explore. However, it may be a very big challenge for any traditional game design company to do justice not only to the setting of the "Otherland" series, but the feel of a Tad Williams plot and story. I really hope this comes out as envisioned by the fans of Tad Williams' works, but I think I'll reserve judgement until people can test drive the product.

He's my wife's favorite author, so I'm going to HAVE to buy this MMO. She loved that series second best. Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn were the best she ever "readed".

"unique and different" *sigh*
Another Game that will go poof after a short while, because people don´t like "Unique and different", they just want the same old, same old, they are used to... :(
It will not be a WoW clone, but even if it was, it would not be successful because people don´t like that either, but they nonetheless play such games, as long as they find enough things they´re "used to" to like the game despite it being a "clone".
"Unique and different" WILL always fail is my view at the moment. Sadly...
I´ll nevertheless try it, because I LIKE "unique and different" a LOT!

With every new game that begins development I have hopes that they will not make the same basic mistakes that can not be taken back after the first phase of development. Character models, and animations need to look better than other games. Anything else in game play can be adjusted or added to but once you get the basic graphics down for character models your kind of stuck.
The idea of the game sounds pretty interesting though.

Honestly I think it would be a stretch to incorporate MMO combat and character progression mechanics into the actual Otherland worlds, which were designed more as living, breathing automata and less as gameplay experiences. Especially in a setting like in the Otherland books, where _there actually are really cool (non-Otherland) MMOs to play_. If the game takes place after the end of the books the worlds were explicitly opened up to the public as Second Life-like spaces anyway.
It just feels extraneous, like in Star Trek Online when you ended up leveling your character by killing mobs on instanced away missions.
The combat has me concerned also. There's some disparity between the eurogamer announcement 3 years ago and what I hear coming out today. Real U, or Gamigo seems to be trying hard to cast this as a traditional, combat intensive MMO with unique play elements. I thought the original precepts were much more inline with Tad Williams creation, and much more compelling as a game. Building Otherland as just another combat-based MMO experience... not so exciting.
Never heard of this guy or this game...
No hype? Is it Vapor?
