Pirates of the Burning Sea: Our Official F2P Review
We're revisiting Flying Lab Software's seafaring MMO, Pirates of the Burning Sea, in our latest official review. Has the game improved since switching over to the free-to-play model? Read on to find out!

I've always been a fan of piracy. Something about not having a destination or goal to speak of, doing jobs as you need it and the overabundance of easily acquired booty (in more ways than one). So when some of my friends got into Pirates of the Burning Sea, I liked the idea from the get-go. The game offered a level of freedom that I found desirable, while still giving a sense of direction before saying "here is the world, go out and have fun".

Michael Bitton: SWTOR - The 'Singleplayer RPG'
Many gamers have labeled Star Wars: The Old Republic a "singleplayer RPG", but is this truly a fair criticism? What's the larger issue here? We discuss it all in this week's SWTOR column!

Unfortunately, one sort of comment has been nagging at me for going on two years now and I really can't ignore it (or the subject) any longer. It goes something like this:

"Star Wars: The Old Republic is a singleplayer RPG."

There are a ton of variations on this comment, but it's pretty much used both in context when responding to threads about grouping or just as a catch-all criticism about the game whenever someone feels it's deemed appropriate.

Game of the Week
RuneScape is a modern classic fantasy MMORPG, having been around in some form since 2001. The game takes place in the divided land of Gielinor. Players choose their class and advance through quests and monster hunting. While there is an overarching storyline, RuneScape is very non-linear. There are opportunities for collaboration as well as PvP. Minigames exist for advancing skills.

Although RuneScape's roots are old, the game has had several incarnations, with each new version replacing the old. The latest, RuneScape HD, was released in 2008, and is a major overhaul. While the basic game is free to download and play, it is limited, and a subscription will net a player more frequent (and exclusive) content updates, a player home, the ability to play full screen (free users are limited to a windowed client), and more advantages.
