Wakfu: Review
Wakfu was recently unleashed upon the world by Square Enix and Ankama Games. We've been spending some quality time in Wakfu's free zones to prepare for our official review.

If you're expecting epic quests, great loot, a compelling storyline and larger than life battles, then maybe Wakfu isn't the game for you. But if you're interested in exploring a drop-dead gorgeous world without getting aggro from every single mob you come across and being able to chat freely without restrictions to all the other players in the game, then you'll probably LOVE this game.

The Secret World: GDC 2012 Preview
During last week's Game Developer's Conference, our team had the opportunity to learn a lot more about Funcom's The Secret World. In the first of our two previews of TSW, we give our readers an overview of the game and our thoughts about it.

My initial impressions of The Secret World are of a love child between the Dresden Files, Left 4 Dead, and maybe some Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Alan Wake thrown in there for good measure. Funcom's MMORPG has a fun, refreshing modern world with a clean, minimalist user interface and cinematic story dialogue sequences. It also has a dark and cryptic feel to it, with great lighting effects and some scripted survival/horror type events in the Templar area that I got to play with. Fighting monsters in TSW feels pretty comfortably like MMO combat, but a little more action-oriented with the ability to run-and-gun, and I liked that my NPC party members were chatting away through combat, providing a context and tone for what we were up against. The demo build that I played looked polished and ran well, with a few framerate issues and rough edges here and there.

Game of the Week
Wizard101 places you into the role of a student at a school for student wizards in this MMORPG. Players create a character and then enter one of seven magical schools. After learning the ropes and some new skills, players plunge into the magical, sometimes humorous storyline.

The story quests follow the player's journey to stop the evil wizard Malistaire Drake and foil his various schemes. There are magic classes, wizard duels and more for each player to discover. Obvious Harry Potter influences aside, the game distinguishes itself with many roleplaying opportunities, quests, an abundance of skills to master, as well as a collectible card battle system.

Wizard101 is suitable for players of all ages. The game is accessible through two unique means - subscription and a la carte. A monthly subscription will open up all areas and features, but another option is to buy "crowns" from the item shop and use them to unlock one or two areas at a time (for around $1-3). These areas will stay open permanently after purchase.
