  | | | | The Secret World: Dungeon Making Process | | | | |
MMORPG.com has partnered with Funcom to bring our readers an inside look at how dungeons are created for The Secret World. Penned by Senior Designer Brent Ellison, it's a fascinating behind the scenes look for one of the most keenly anticipated games for 2012. Dungeons in The Secret World are challenging and intense, an opportunity for players to test their builds, skills and teamwork to the utmost. They serve as very focused content, in sharp contrast to the wide sandboxes of the playfields. In a dungeon, players live and die by the strength of their team and their ability to strategize to meet the odds. At the same time, story and setting are key to The Secret World, so each dungeon still needs to expand on and deepen the world we're creating. The extra level of control that we developers get in instanced content gives us a great opportunity to tell stories, but we still want to make sure it feels like it's the player's story. They must feel involved and immersed, driving the way forward through their own actions. Check out the article here. ArcheAge is an medieval fantasy MMO that has clearly captured the interests of the MMORPG.com community. The game features CryEngine 3 powered graphics and its developers over at XLGAMES are promising to recreate the glory days of Ultima Online by providing the ultimate sandbox experience. To that end, ArcheAge looks to improve on many of the features gamers expect from a sandbox game while also boasting significant additions such as naval warfare. ArcheAge is set for release sometime in 2012 in South Korea, though the game's fate as far as a North American release is still up in the air. Learn more about ArcheAge here, or check out our game list here. |
