There's no question that there is a lot to see with the impressive array of changes that have come to the game since its original launch. MMORPG.com writer Lori May has gone back to Runes of Magic for a re-review of the game. Ultimately, I was shocked by the volume of free content available in RoM. As a player who tends to prefer grinding to endless quests, the emphasis on the latter wasn't something I was thrilled about. However, the XP and loot rewards are fair for the time investment, though it essentially means group leveling is limited prior to level 20. But the RoM world is vast, and the frequent updates and seasonal festivals provide a fairly continuous amount of things to do. Compared to other F2P titles, RoM manages to succeed with style and a polish rarely exhibited without a membership fee or purchase price. While it isn't likely to ever trump the major P2P players currently in the market, Runes of Magic is certainly worth a trial run for anyone looking to try a worthwhile game for little or no monetary investment. As the floodgates are beginning to squeak open on all things TSW, Jon, Dag and Joel talked about The Secret World's story, missions and much much more. Story missions are more of an "umbrella" mission. For example, one of the early goals in the story mission is "Investigate events in Kingsmouth". Through exploration and completing other missions in the area, the player will come upon the trigger which updates that goal in their own time - we don't tell them where to go or what to do. The Story Mission has a nice mix of these open-ended moments and also tightly scripted linear sequences. This encourages good flow and allows people breathing space between big revelations. -Joel Bylos, Funcom Check out the interview here. Visit our boards today! | | | This week's Game of the Week is Funcom's The Secret World. The Secret World is an in-development MMORPG by Funcom. An original story, it will take place in the modern day as well as ancient mythology and civilizations long gone, blending these elements into what is being called a dark fantasy with supernatural elements. A battle between good and evil will unfold and players will be a part of it, building up their supernatural powers (there are no classes) and shaping their characters as they desire. The game will also include depictions of some real locations as well as fictional ones. With E3 just around the corner, we expect that The Secret World will be becoming less and less secret in the near future.
