Finalist Voting Opens

Finalists for Story: EVE Online, Ryzom and World of Warcraft

A lot goes into a story in an MMORPG and there is no single definition. What we want you to consider is which game did the best job of providing players with avenues to experience their world in 2006? This includes live events, role-playing support, quests, the community itself and anything else that makes you feel like you're a citizen of more than just a video game, but a world.

Last year, you chose Ryzom. Since then, a lot has changed. They launched the player-story tools in the form of the Ryzom Ring, but they also filed for receivership and the game's future remains uncertain. Nonetheless, the servers are active. Do they deserve to repeat as the best story of 2006? Others seem to like EVE Online's player driven dramas and World of Warcraft's wealth of quests.

The Finalists

EVE Online, CCP Games

When CCP Games merged with Whitewolf, they did it in part to help tell better stories. Apparently, their fans think they were really good at it already in nominating them for this category. EVE has live events, missions and the most complex in-character network of alliances in the industry. The recent addition of VOIP to the game should have interesting ripple effects.

Ryzom, Nevrax

It won last year and has since launched arguably the most innovative and powerful tools the genre has ever seen for telling stories. The Ryzom Ring enables players to craft their own D&D style live events and run players through them. Does this week Ryzom on top or do the recent financial woes open the door for a new champ?

World of Warcraft, Blizzard Entertainment

This is an interesting category. One game made it due to its community, one due to its tools and support and a third due to the content the developers put in right away. World of Warcraft has a lot of quests, that much is certain. It's the most popular game in the space and players can run missions until their eyes bleed. Does it give them the win?
