2010 Awards: Best New Game

The month of December has come and gone, taking 2010 with it. Some say good riddance, some look back fondly, but no matter how you slice it, that puppy’s behind us and we’re all moving forward to 2011. For the team here at MMORPG.com, we’ve just got one tiny loose thread to tie up before we officially start the new year: We have to announce the winners of the 2010 MMORPG.com Reader’s Choice Awards! Today we present your choice for the Best New MMO of 2010.

This year, our categories were: Game of the Year, New Game of the Year, Most Innovative, Most Improved, Best F2P, Favorite Company, Biggest News Story, Most Anticipated, and the newest, and most dubious, addition to our prizes, Biggest Disappointment.

The rules were simple: For readers, look at the nominees and vote. One vote per person. We frown on cheating. For nominees: You may inform your community about your nomination, but may not otherwise unduly skew the voting by telling them who to vote for.

Best New Game

There were a number of high profile launches in 2010, each met with its own degrees of success or failure over the year. In this category, we asked our readers to decide which of the nominated games launched in 2010 that they felt made the best addition to the MMORPG universe.

The voting broke down as such:

Lego Universe   5.5%
Global Agenda   9.8%
Final Fantasy XIV   5.8%
Vindictus 16.2%
Star Trek Online    7.4%
Perpetuum   14.8%
Mortal Online     8.4%
None of the Above   32.1%

This year, the MMORPG.com staff decided to nominate “None of the Above” in one of our award categories, and there was very little debate over which category would carry it. Over the last year, we’ve watched our forums explode with readers ferociously tearing down the launches of the past year whether due to unpopular design decisions, poorly executed launches or even unpopular revenue models this year’s new games had been complained about enough to give people the option to speak out.

It shouldn't then, come as a huge shock that, when given the choice, MMORPG.com readers threw the majority of their support behind None of the Above for Best New Game of 2010.
