2005 Reader's Choice Award Winners

The voting has ended and now we are prepared to hand out the Reader's Choice hardware.

Reader's Choice Best PvE: World of WarCraft, Blizzard Entertainment

World of WarCraft launched in 2004, but it became a world-wide hit over 2005. The game now boasts over 5-million world wide subscribers and is primarily driven by player vs. environment-based content. As such, it was fitting that it took over half the vote to win our "Best PvE" award for 2005.

Blizzard took what had come before and did it right, according to many observers. The game is a breeze to get into, easy to play and extremely addicting. I think everyone knows at least one person - if not more - who spends entirely too much time playing World of WarCraft. The only surprise is that they logged off long enough to vote.

Again the decision was conclusive. With 56% of the vote under their belt, not even the vote-split between EverQuest II (14%) and EverQuest (4%) can be blamed for the WoW win. Sandwiched in the middle came two games - Anarchy Online and Final Fantasy XI - tied at 12%.

Next up is Best PvP, which had to go to a run-off. Did it change anything?
