As many already know, our former Community Manager Laura Genender passed away last week. I had last spoken to Laura just a week before. She wanted to know what shows and events the MMORPG.com boys would be attending in the near future, specifically, EVE Fanfest. Jon and I both wanted to go but we typically send only one person, so this year I was considering paying my own way and just going as a fan for a bit of a vacation. I was on the fence on whether or not I could justify the expense to myself, and all Laura had to say to convince me was confirm that she was going to be there as well. It had been months since I'd seen her last and I was looking forward to an MMORPG.com reunion in Reykjavik. Over the past few days I've found myself thinking that the event was too far off to wait to see a friend, and I wish I had had the chance to see her again sooner.
We've all had a hard time sorting out our thoughts and feelings about her sudden passing, but Jon managed to say it best with this memorial.

Last week at Gen Con, Community Manager Richard Cox penned a series of previews of our video coverage of Gen Con
Primarily the interview was about what players can expect in Module 8. Mod 8 is centered around improving the new player experience. Turbine has revamped the early/starter parts of the game to include character creation, to make the game more accessible to new players. This includes people who are starting to play the game because friends of theirs are already playing as well as those completely new to the title. The changes are also geared toward helping to break those new players who aren't familiar with the D&D rules into the game more slowly than previously.

This Week's game of the week is Tabula Rasa.
The folks at Tabula Rasa have been running an unusual promotion for the game, which is likely to never be duplicated by any other game developer. With Operation Immortality, NCsoft wants to digitize the DNA of a number of us terrestrial humans, and then send it into space with Richard Garriott when he visits the International Space Station this October.
The endeavor was somewhat inspired by the the storyline of Tabula Rasa, which sees the population of our planet wiped out by an alien invasion, with the survivors continuing to fight on other planets in an inter-stellar war. So if you're too lazy to fight off an alien invasion, consider saving humanity the easy way, by blasting your DNA into orbit.

You probably do, because it was just mentioned above the 'Week That Was' column and the Anarchy Online ad.
