Editorial Awards Expansion of the Year: EQII: Echoes of Faydwer
The winner in this category created the best gaming experience in an expansion released in 2006.
After much consideration, the newest offering from the folks over at Sony Online Entertainment’s EverQuest II. The Echoes of Faydwer expansion introduced a number of brand new elements to this popular MMORPG. The addition of the Fae as a playable race has had players and non-players alike buzzing for quite some time.
In addition to the new Fae race, Echoes of Faydwer introduced a new starting city, and expanded achievement system, new content and more.
City of Heroes / Villains, Issue 8: Protect and Serve
A special nod should go out to our runner-up in this category. This year, Cryptic Studio’s City of Heroes franchise released the eighth free expansion for their game. With a direct focus on the Heroes side of the franchise (the last expansion looked to the villains), Issue 8 introduced Safeguard missions, Police Band and more.
It was the addition of the Veteran Rewards Program that nearly put this expansion over the edge, giving long-time players tangible rewards for their continued efforts is a step in the right direction.
